Since joining Fox News in 2018, Lawrence B. Jones has steadily climbed the ranks. In 2022, he launched his own show, Cross Country, and by the following year, he secured a permanent position as a co-host on the weekday edition of Fox & Friends.

While he’s a popular figure among viewers, there’s someone in his life who might be even more adored—his loyal service dog, Nala. Keep reading to learn more about this special pup and find out why Cross Country was canceled.

The Story Behind Lawrence Jones and Nala

On September 17, 2022, Lawrence introduced Nala to the world, sharing three heartwarming photos of her on Instagram. Fans instantly fell in love with the adorable canine, who has since become a regular feature on his social media. However, Lawrence didn’t openly talk about their bond until a few months later.

During a March 28, 2023, episode of Ride to Work With Abby Hornacek, the Texas native expressed just how much Nala means to him, saying, “Nala has been a gift to me.”

He went on to recount how their paths first crossed, explaining that he had been assigned to cover a story about Raptor, a highly decorated Special Forces canine known for serving during the war on terror.

“I built a strong connection with Raptor,” Lawrence recalled. “She was a tough dog, but she wouldn’t leave my side. Then, the Special Forces operator looked at me and said, ‘I feel like you want one.’”

Half-jokingly, Lawrence responded, “If you can find me one from Raptor’s bloodline, I’ll take one.” To his surprise, on Labor Day, he received a message from the operator along with a photo, saying, “Brother, I found you one.” That was the moment he met Nala—and from then on, the two have been inseparable.

When Nala isn’t undergoing training with Baden K9 to assist U.S. veterans with PTSD, she’s living her best life by Lawrence’s side.

What Happened to Lawrence Jones Cross Country?

After nearly two years on the air, Cross Country wrapped up on September 9, 2023. The show, which premiered on January 29, 2022, aired live from Fox News’ headquarters in New York City every Saturday at 9 p.m. EST.

So, why was it canceled? Just days later, on September 14, Fox News announced that Lawrence had been named a permanent co-host of the weekday edition of Fox & Friends. With this promotion, Cross Country came to an end, and One Nation with Brian Kilmeade took over its Saturday time slot.

Fox News highlighted the significance of his new role, stating that Lawrence is now the “youngest Black co-host in cable news.”

The network also praised his journalistic instincts, saying, “Lawrence has his finger on the pulse of what matters to communities across America, and his insight has proved invaluable to the Fox & Friends audience. We look forward to welcoming him to our family as he wakes up America alongside our star co-hosts each morning.”

Reflecting on his achievement, Lawrence expressed his gratitude, saying, “I am honored to become part of the incredible legacy Fox News has built with Fox & Friends—the very show where I made my first-ever national television appearance. It is truly a privilege to inform our audience every day, and I can’t wait to do so each morning.”
