There has already been a huge turnover following the Super Bowl in February.

Erin Andrews and Charissa Thompson are both out of contract, and have left the show, for the moment.

Now, Fox NFL Sunday legend Jimmy Johnson has announced he is leaving.

The 81-year-old revealed he was retiring immediately on Monday afternoon.

The broadcast legend told Colin Cowherd on The Herd the heartbreaking news.

Johnson said he had been thinking about hanging up his microphone for around five years.

And his exit raises questions over the future of Fox colleague Terry Bradshaw.

The 76-year-old has sparked health concerns over the past few years.

Fans have urged him to take a backseat from the weekly show.

His contract runs until 2027, but he claims he would like to stay until beyond that.

‘Thinking about it for five years’, Jimmy Johnson announces Fox NFL Sunday retirement in surprise live TV statement
Johnson hinted at leaving Fox NFL Sunday during the Super Bowl in New Orleans last month.

He broke down in tears over an emotional segment about his Hall of Fame career.

The veteran has been with the broadcaster for 31 years, starting in 1994.

“As you know, probably the most fun I’ve ever had in my career, and that’s counting Super Bowls and National Championships, was at Fox Sports,” Johnson told Cowherd.

“I have an absolute ball with my friends on the set, and the best friends I’ve ever had there with Fox.

“And I’ll tell you on top of that, I love working for Eric Shanks, our CEO, and our producer Bill Richards.

“But I’ve made an extremely difficult decision.

“I’ve been thinking about it for the last four or five years, and I’ve decided to retire from Fox, and I’m going to miss it.

“I’m going to miss all the guys, and I’ll see them occasionally, but it has been a great run starting back 31 years ago.”

Johnson will leave behind Michael Strahan, Howie Long, Curt Menefee and Co on Fox.

The two-time Super Bowl champion was once the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys and Miami Dolphins.
