Hugh said the  new company would be ‘dedicated to live theatre that is intimate and accessible.’

‘Every Together production will be driven by a commitment to offering audiences a chance to experience theatre in a fresh and engaging way.’

The Deadpool star also included a lengthy blurb in the post that announced that the former director of the famed Royal court Theatre Ian Rickson would be part of Together.

Elsewhere in a joint statement Hugh and Friedman said: ‘With director Ian Rickson we wanted to create a company where actors, writers, and directors could experiment, explore, and take risks, away from the pressures that are often associated with the commercial theatre world.

The pair hinted that their new project was not about thumbing their noses at the box office oriented productions that dominated the entertainment precincts of New York and London.

‘At the same time, this isn’t about our stepping away from Broadway or the West End, it’s about supporting and co-existing alongside them.’

While Hugh is best known the world over as a movie super hero thanks to the Wolverine franchise, the Sydney-born actor has been a darling among fans of musical theatre for decades.

His starring roles that brought him fame as a great song and dance man include the Peter Allen musical The Boy from Oz, The Music Man and Oklahoma.

It comes after news that Hugh is reportedly planning to marry his girlfriend Sutton Foster after he finalises his divorce from Deborra-Lee Furness.

The Greatest Showmna star went public with his Broadway co-star in January, almost two years after confirming his split from his wife of 27 years.

A source close to Hugh has now revealed his plans to marry Sutton.

Hugh had a lot of back and forth while he was in Australia for the holidays but ultimately, he realised how much he missed her,’ an insider told Sky News.

‘The magic came flooding back when they reunited and ultimately marriage is the end game for these two.

‘Hugh is clear he wants to make Sutton his wife.’

Hugh and Deborra-Lee announced the end of their marriage in a shock statement in September 2023, telling fans that they were ‘shifting’ and as a result had decided to ‘separate to pursue our individual growth’.

Hugh and Deborra-Lee met back in 1995 on Australian TV show Correlli, when she was a major star, and he was enjoying his first role fresh out of drama school.

He proposed four months later, telling Today in 2018 that he knew two weeks into meeting Deborra-Lee that they were ‘going to be together for the rest of our lives.’

They were married in Melbourne, Australia, in April 1996 before adopting their son Oscar, now 24, in 2000. Five years later they completed their family unit when they adopted daughter Ava, 19.
