Chris Hemsworth Called Captain America Boring While Chris Evans Said Thor Is Just All Muscle and No Depth

If charisma could be bottled, then the day Chris Hemsworth and Chris Evans walked into that interview room, someone should’ve started bottling.

SUMMARY

Chris Hemsworth called Captain America “boring” in a playful jab during the interview.

Chris Evans added sarcastically that Thor needs “layers… depth behind the eyes.”

Despite jokes, both actors do most of their own stunts unless it’s dangerously risky.

Ah, when you’re dealing with two Chrises who are equal parts superhero and stand-up comic, you realize sarcasm is their superpower too. It was a rare, almost cinematic delight: a press room charged with comic timing and the kind of unfiltered banter that publicists usually dream of editing out. Chris Hemsworth, ever the charming hammer-slinger, boldly labeled Captain America “boring”, while Chris Evans laughed like he had nothing to lose.

What could’ve been a sterile promotional interview for Avengers: Age of Ultron turned into a bromantic roast session full of jests, jabs, and joy. And somewhere between the laughter, you caught a glimpse of two actors who are anything but their characters, and yet, weirdly, just like them.

Honestly; when you put two actors named Chris in the same room, something’s bound to crack. That day, it cracked gloriously. Chris Hemsworth went on the offensive early, casually branding Chris Evans’ Captain America as predictable and saying (via Instagram):

I would probably play Captain America and make him good.

Ouch. As if that wasn’t enough, he added, “I’d make Cap a little less predictable… that’s so boring like…” trailing off like a friend too polite to finish a roast. Evans didn’t hold back either. Between laughs, he said:

Just play Thor for a second as an interesting guy. As someone with layers, you know—layers when there’s depth behind the eyes.

It was sibling-like banter, but the subtext was clear: both actors love each other’s characters just enough to mock them mercilessly.

Chris Evans Should Do What Chris Hemsworth Did Before It’s Too Late in His Career

Asked about their first read-through of Avengers: Age of Ultron, Hemsworth admitted his initial thought was (via Screen Rant):

Wow, there’s a lot of Captain America in this.

To which Evans burst into laughter and replied:

Where is my character?

Hemsworth called the script “long and dense” and joked that Joss Whedon, the director, kept adding and changing things until no one really knew what the final product would be. “It was kind of everything and the kitchen sink,” he said, though, frankly, that’s him being kind. Evans chimed in with how tough it is to even process all the action sequences. He explained:

You read these scripts and… you have 10, 20 pages of just action which is impossible to kind of grasp. You can read, ‘Iron Man crushes so-and-so; they fly’ and you’re like, ‘Great.’

It’s the kind of reaction you’d expect from a guy who’s had to do push-ups in chainmail.

What about stunts? Who gets to risk their neck?

When it comes to the physical toll of these roles, both men had stories and bruises to share. In the same interview, Chris Hemsworth joked:

It never says, ‘Stunt man.’ Basically, we all kind of turn up and do it…

But there’s a limit. He added:

The versions where we could potentially die? They don’t usually let us do it.

Chris Evans nodded, throwing in,

Great way to put it. ‘Nah, I’m going to be in my trailer.’

Honestly, can you blame them?

The conversation turned cosmic when Hemsworth was asked if Thor’s next film would be set entirely in Asgard. “Why does everyone know about my career but me?” he replied dryly.

When pushed on it, he reflected:

The thing about Earth is that it gets trickier and trickier to avoid each other. It’s like, ‘Thor’s coming to save the world, where the hell is the rest of the team?’

He also praised the Guardians of the Galaxy approach. “Guardians worked on such a huge level,” he said, suggesting maybe it was time for Thor to do more space exploring and less Earth-hopping. Evans agreed, calling those outerworld stories “ripe” for crossover. A word we usually reserve for avocados, but we’ll allow it.

Released on May 1, 2015, Avengers: Age of Ultron pulled in over $1.4 billion globally and cemented itself as one of the biggest films of its time. But the real legacy? These moments behind the scenes. The jokes, the fatigue, the good-natured ribbing, the glimpse into what happens when superheroes hang up their hammers and shields and just… laugh.
