Deontay Wilder Attacks Tyson Fury in Brutal 7-Word Statement

Tyson Fury v Deontay Wilder - Weigh-in

American puncher Deontay Wilder refused to hold back when commenting about Tyson Fury, his career-rival in boxing.

The two heavyweights exchanged slugs over three thrilling fights to create one of boxing’s all-time great trilogies. They shared a draw in the first fight, despite Wilder flooring Fury in the 12th round of a dramatic bout, before exchanging knockdowns in fights two and three, both of which Fury triumphed in.

The three fights appear to have taken a lot of both athletes as neither seems to have been the same ever since.

Since the back-to-back losses to Fury, Wilder has won just once, but then lost to Joseph Parker by decision and then Zhilei Zhang by knockout. Fury, meanwhile, beat Dillian Whyte and Derek Chisora, and though he edged a narrow win over Francis Ngannou, the ex-UFC star dropped Fury in one of the more iconic photos of the modern era. Fury then lost back-to-back bouts himself to Oleksandr Usyk, and then retired from the sport.

Wilder returns to the ring on the 27th of June but ahead of his comeback, he couldn’t help but say what he really thinks of Fury.

When speaking to Inside Boxing, Wilder summarized his opinion on Fury in these seven words:

“He is the biggest cheater in boxing.”

It is unclear what, specifically, Wilder is referring to, particularly as Fury once tested positive for nandrolone in 2015, which he blamed on eating uncastrated wild boar meat. It is likely, though, that Wilder is talking about the wild and unsubstantiated internet theory that Fury loaded his gloves during one, or more, of their fights together. This has never been proven. Wilder, additionally, did not provide evidence to support his claim.

“I already know what he is, he knows what he is, and they know what he is,” he finished.

At 39 years old, Wilder fights for the 49th time of his pro career when he takes on Tyrrell Anthony Heerndon at the Charles Koch Arena in Wichita, Kansas, on the 27th of June. It is the type of opponent that a peak-form Wilder would have annihilated, and so if he scores a thumping knockout then calls for Wilder to fight a bigger name may escalate.

He has been linked with a transatlantic prizefight against Anthony Joshua, and a crossover bout against Francis Ngannou.
