‘I’m fully committed’ – Mike Tyson lands new job five months after Jake Paul fight
Mike Tyson has landed a new role outside of the boxing ring.
The former heavyweight boxing champion is trading uppercuts for executives, as he has been appointed the CEO of a Las Vegas-based cannabis company.
Tyson returned to the boxing ring last November in Texas. But ‘Iron Mike’ suffered a unanimous decision defeat to Jake Paul.
The announcement comes just five months after the 58-year-old made his controversial return to the square circle, losing to Jake Paul in front of 70,000 Texas fans and millions around the world on Netflix.
He got the new job on Thursday as lifestyle organisation Carma HoldCo, the parent company behind cannabis brands like Tyson 2.0 and Ric Flair Drip, named Tyson, who co-founded the company, as their CEO.
Tyson’s new role signals a shift in the company’s ‘strategic leadership’, and is ‘a deeply personal progression for Tyson himself,’ according to its announcement.
“Carma HoldCo was built on the belief that powerful stories and even more powerful products can change how people connect with wellness, entertainment, and culture,” Tyson, who boasts a 50-7 pro record, said.
“This isn’t just a title—it’s a responsibility I take seriously. I’ve wanted to be more involved for a long time, and now is the right time to take that step.
“I’m fully committed to making sure everything we create stays true to who we are while growing in new and exciting ways.”
Carma HoldCo later added that his appointment adds a strengthened focus on ‘brand authenticity, creativity, and meaningful consumer experiences.’
Tyson’s new role comes as his last opponent, Paul, announced who he would be fighting next.
The 28-year-old YouTuber-turned-boxer will step in the ring with Julio Cesar Chavez Jr, the son of boxing legend Julio Cesar Chavez, in his next fight.
Tyson, meanwhile, looks to have turned his back on the boxing world for good as he enters an exciting new chapter in his iconic career.
Tyson said it was ‘the right time’ to take his next step in the company. He has been a long-time cannabis advocate and first started in the industry after founding Tyson 2.0 in 2021.
The following year, Tyson buried the hatchet with his former foe Evander Holyfield to form Carma Holdings, which launched various products in the same industry, including gummies shaped like the latter’s ear almost 25 years after their infamous fight.
Tyson seemingly confirmed last week that he was all but done with professional boxing when revealing if he would fight again.
“The only person I’m fighting now is my accountant,” he said. “Other than that, I’m just living life and I’m doing good right now.”
This came after his son, Amir Tyson, suggested his father is unlikely to compete in the ring again.
“I think he’s done,” Amir said. “My stepmom, she’s saying he’s done and they’re a team. That’s husband-and-wife stuff.
