Jake Paul vs Julio Cesar Chavez Jr Guaranteed Pay

Jake Paul and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr

Jake Paul is set to return to the boxing ring on Saturday night in Anaheim, California, as he faces his toughest opponent yet in former world champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr, but this time, he won’t be the one cashing the biggest cheque, at least as far as the California State Athletic Commission is concerned.

That honour goes to Gilberto ‘Zurdo’ Ramirez, who fights in the co-main event against Yuniel Dorticos. Ramirez will earn a reported $1.5 million, making his guaranteed purse five times larger than Paul’s, despite not being the headline act.

This doesn’t mean he’ll be walking away with just that figure though. The YouTuber-turned-boxer is expected to make millions more through pay-per-view revenue shares, sponsorships, merchandise, and brand deals, as he has done in his previous bouts. In the past, his official purse has only represented a fraction of his true earnings, and this event will likely follow suit.

Though the numbers matter, the fight itself could be a defining one for Paul. Chavez Jr may be a figure that divides opinion, but he brings real boxing credentials to the table. The Mexican is a former WBC middleweight world champion and the son of one of the greatest fighters the sport has ever produced.

Though his activity has been limited, fighting only once since 2021, Chavez Jr has a professional record and ring experience that far surpasses anyone Paul has faced to date. For the first time in his career, The Problem Child will share the ring with a seasoned boxer who has operated at the world level, not just past-their-prime MMA stars or fellow novices.

A win here would go a long way in silencing critics who claim Paul has hand-picked easy opponents. A loss, on the other hand, could prove damaging, not just to his reputation, but to the brand he’s spent years building.

It’s a fight that matters, and a result that could reshape how seriously Jake Paul is taken in the world of boxing.
