MMA pros gave their predictions for Ilia Topuria vs. Charles Oliveira ahead of their vacant lightweight title fight.

Topuria takes on Oliveira on June 28 in a bid to become a two-weight world champion. He moved up to lightweight following his success at featherweight, where he secured the belt with a KO of Alexander Volaknovski. Topuria made one defense of that belt, giving Max Holloway his first stoppage loss as he moved up to target Islam Makhachev.

However, the latter moved up to welterweight in his own bid to become a two-weight champion, with the belt held by Jack Della Maddalena. Oliveira is the former UFC Lightweight Champion who lost his belt to Islam. He defeated Michael Chandler in his last fight at UFC 309. The win allayed fears over his form, having lost to Arman Tsarukyan at UFC 300. Arman has been named back-up for UFC 317, meaning there could still be a rematch if Topuria pulls out. Here is how the pros saw the fight playing out.

Predictions

“Can’t wait for that one. You know, I’m a super big fan of Charles, but Ilia has kind of just looked unbeatable at the moment. So, I think I will give it to him,” Jack Hermansson

“I’m a super big fan of Charles, but Ilia has kind of just looked unbeatable at the moment. So, I think I will give it to him, man. It’s really hard to pick against Ilia Topuria. I’m a big Charles Oliveira fan, especially like, I love, you know, I’m always rooting for the guys from like the old guard. But if I’m going to get into the X’s and O’s, the way Topuria is able to touch the body is something that I think is going to play a big role in this fight,” Michael Chiesa

“I think Topuria is going to knock him out because he, because Oliveira is going to stand with him. Oliveira always stands with people, and Oliveira always gets clipped. And Topuria is an extremely smart fighter, always stays protected. And I think he is going to take advantage of the fact that Oliveira always gets hit, and he’s going to rock him and then put him out,” Billy Goff

“I’m going to lean towards Ilia. I think he’s got what it takes to beat Charles. Charles is no one to be slept on. I like both of them so much, but I’m going to go Ilia man. Even though he’s a little bit smaller, Charles is a big 155, you know, he’s so lengthy and stuff, but I think Ilia’s grappling is going to be enough to kind of stop that,” Gabe Green

“Man, It’s a hard fight for Charles, but I’m a big fan. He’s an inspiration for me, and if someone can upset the odds, it’s him. He’s done it before and he can do it again, so I’m going to go with Charles. That’s going to be interesting,” Mairon Santos
