The Accountant 2 Climbs Amazon’s All-Time Highest Grossing Movie Chart At The Domestic Box Office

The action sequel The Accountant 2, which sees Ben Affleck reprising his role as autistic action hero Christian Wolff opposite returning co-stars Jon Bernthal, Cynthia Addai-Robinson, and J. K. Simmons, is climbing an important box office chart. The Accountant 2 opening weekend was underwhelming, with a $24.5 million domestic gross seeing it debut at No. 3 behind the second weekend of Sinners and the 20th anniversary re-release of Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith. It also had a harsh 61.3% drop during its sophomore weekend, but it has since leveled out and continued to climb the domestic chart.

Per The NumbersThe Accountant 2 has hit a domestic box office total of $53.6 million, just ahead of its fourth weekend in theaters. This is enough for it to surpass the $52.6 earned by George Clooney’s 2023 rowing movie The Boys in the Boat and the $50.1 million earned by Luca Guadagnino’s 2024 tennis drama Challengers, making it the third highest-grossing domestic movie ever put out by Amazon MGM Studios.

What This Means For The Accountant 2

It Might Not Climb Any Higher

Ultimately, it seems unlikely that 2025’s The Accountant 2 will be able to climb much higher up the studio’s chart. More than $10 million separates it and the No. 2 title, which is the Jason Statham action hit The Beekeeper ($66.2 million), and given how much theatrical competition is coming (including Final Destination BloodlinesMission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, and Lilo & Stitch before the end of May), it may not have the momentum to continue drawing in audiences. See where it stands on the full Top 5 chart for Amazon MGM Studios below:

Rank
Title

#1
Red One (2024)
$97 million

#2
The Beekeeper (2024)
$66.2 million

#3
The Accountant 2 (2025)
$53.6 million

#4
The Boys in the Boat (2023)
$52.6 million

#5
Challengers (2024)
$50.1 million

It is also important to note that Amazon MGM Studios has not existed for very long. It has only existed since October 2023, when Amazon Studios officially merged with MGM Holdings. Thus, the studio has not had the opportunity to put that many releases in theaters. However, the Ben Affleck movie has nevertheless outgrossed at least 10 other movies at the domestic box office, including notable titles such as the Jason Statham action movie A Working Man ($36.9 million), the Best Picture nominee Nickel Boys ($2.8 million), and the psychosexual Emerald Fennell drama Saltburn ($11.4 million).

Our Take On The Accountant 2 Box Office

It Doesn’t Necessarily Need To Climb Higher

While a position at No. 3 is impressive, The Accountant 2 has still most likely not hit its estimated break-even point, even with its current global box office gross of $84.8 million. Its reported budget is $80 million, which likely means it needs to earn $200 million in order to turn a profit in theaters. However, Amazon MGM Studios releases are designed for an eventual Prime Video run, where it may make up for this box office deficit with subscriber revenue, preventing it from ultimately being considered a disappointment.
