The DCU’s Newest Trailer Make My Biggest Theories About What Happens After Superman Look Way More Likely

The newest DCU trailer makes some of my biggest theories and hopes way more likely following Superman. After the first live-action DCU project releases in July, Peacemaker season 2 is set to be the first live-action series releasing in August. As such, the first trailer for Peacemaker season 2 comes with some exciting reveals about the future.
Although the first season of Peacemaker was technically set in the previous DCEU, it looks as though Peacemaker season 2 will be in the new DCU. This will most likely be similar to James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad, which became DCU canon via references made in the recent animated series Creature Commandos. Regardless, it’s also been confirmed that Peacemaker season 2 will be taking place after James Gunn’s Superman. Keeping that in mind, some key hero appearances in Peacemaker season 2 support some of the biggest theories for the DCU following Superman’s release.
Peacemaker Season 2’s Trailer Features Superman’s Justice Gang
Guy Gardner, Hawkgirl, and Maxwell Lord

At the very beginning of the new Peacemaker season 2 trailer, John Cena’s Christopher Smith is being interviewed by none other than the Justice Gang. Set to debut in Superman a month earlier in July, it appears as though Kendra Saunders’ Hawkgirl (Isabella Merced) and Guy Gardner’s Green Lantern (Nathan Fillion) will survive through the events of the upcoming DCU movie. While Mister Terrific and Metamorpho will also be in Superman, their fates remain to be seen.

Hawkgirl and Green Lantern are also joined in the new trailer by the Justice Gang’s founder, billionaire, and corporate businessman, Maxwell Lord (Sean Gunn).
Running the Justice Gang is not unlike how Lord founded the Justice League International in the comics, which could very well be what the DCU team eventually evolves into. Ultimately, the new trailer sees the Justice Gang rejecting Peacemaker (because they think he sucks). However, this new look at the DCU team does support some key theories for the universe’s future after Superman.
The Justice Gang Recruiting New Heroes Supports A Big Superman Theory
They Likely Tried To Recruit Superman (And Want To Expand)

Simply put, Peacemaker season 2 confirms Lord’s Justice Gang is actively recruiting new heroes following the events of Superman. While Peacemaker doesn’t make the cut, Lord is shown asking Hawkgirl how many more interviews they’re scheduled to do that day. This confirms there are more heroes and vigilantes they’re hoping to potentially add to their ranks, and that the team is looking to expand.
Peacemaker season 2’s trailer also supports the theory that Lord will likely extend an invitation to Superman in the upcoming DCU movie, wanting the protector of Metropolis to join the Justice Gang, given his impressive strength and abilities. Trailers for Superman have confirmed the Man of Steel and Justice Gang will be working together in some capacity. That said, it’s unlikely Kal-El goes fully corporate and dons a uniform by the movie’s end (hence the Justice Gang’s recruiting efforts in Peacemaker season 2).
Is A Justice Gang Movie James Gunn’s Rumored Next DCU Project?
It Does Sound Perfect For The DC Studios Head

The other exciting idea supported by Peacemaker season 2’s Justice Gang scene is the idea that the next DCU project written and directed by James Gunn could be a full-fledged Justice Gang movie. Featuring an expanded roster of heroes seen in Superman and newly recruited heroes, a potential Justice Gang feature does have promise. It could even be the story that perhaps turns the “Gang” into a “League” (or mirrors the comics as Lord’s “JLI” off-shoot).
An ensemble featuring characters who aren’t exactly top-tier heroes does sound like it would be right up James Gunn’s alley. It would certainly be a fun way to have a team-up movie ahead of a larger Justice League feature at some point in the future. For now, we’ll just have to see what’s in store for the DCU once the universe progresses beyond Superman in July.
Peacemaker season 2 premieres August 21st on Max.
