Tyson Fury Camp Member Leaks ‘Real Reason’ He Lost Usyk rematch
The ‘real reason’ why Tyson Fury lost to Oleksandr Usyk has been leaked by a member of his camp, amid speculation that the former undisputed heavyweight champion is preparing to return to the ring.
Both contests ended in decision victories for the Ukrainian. However, the Brit insists that he was robbed of glory on both occasions. Despite initially calling for a third fight with ‘The Cat’, Fury announced his retirement from the sport (yet again) in January 2025, indicating that the judges’ scoring in his rematch with Usyk was a major factor in his decision.
While ‘The Gypsy King’ believes that boxing politics were to blame for his defeat, his nutritionist has now revealed exactly where he feels Team Fury went wrong in preparing to face Usyk.

Fury came in at a career heaviest 281lbs, apparently aiming to use his size and ensuing power advantage to counter Usyk’s speed and boxing IQ. The game plan seemed to be that Fury would lean on his smaller opponent, sap him of energy, and then unload with power shots. Although he is one of the biggest heavyweights in boxing history, Tyson had always had impressive footwork and speed for someone of his size – and the decision to move away from that style was a big gamble.
After both defeats, Fury’s father, John, was quick to blame his son’s preparations as the reason behind the losses. ‘Big John’ has been no stranger to conflicts with those who trained Tyson in the past – and was a big factor in the departure of his son’s former trainer, Ben Davison.
Fury’s Camp For Usyk Rematch Branded “Too Complex”
Former heavyweight champion moved away from what made him successful
However, fresh criticism of Fury’s camp for the Usyk rematch has now emerged via the fighters’ nutritionist, Greg Marriott. Speaking to Seconds Out, the man in charge of Tyson’s diet took aim at those closest to the former champion for ruining his chances of success.
“I think what has happened in that camp, they overcomplicated things. Instead of making him super fit, they made things too complex. He should have never have lost against Usyk. It shouldn’t have even been close, because he is that good. But my voice will only go so far in camp.”
Marriott’s words do have some substance, as Fury had previously shown vulnerability when bulking up. In both his second and third fights with Deontay Wilder, Fury entered the ring at over 270lbs. Even though he emerged victorious from those bouts, he was knocked down on multiple occasions in the trilogy fight.
By contrast, for his first world heavyweight title victory against Wladimir Klitschko in 2015, the Gypsy King came in at just over 256lbs. In his first meeting with Usyk, which was far closer than the rematch, Fury hit the scales at 262lbs. In Marriott’s mind, the extra bulk wasn’t needed.
“I just think for that camp, I didn’t like what I saw. I just thought ‘this is getting overcomplicated’ and it came to fruition in the ring. He should have just been super fit and made to go do his thing. The standard needed to go up for Usyk. That camp for me was 60 percent of Fury for the rematch. And he only just came unstuck.”
Barely four months after Fury announced he was walking away from the sport, reports have emerged linking him with a comeback fight. The fighter has posted clips of himself back in training under the guidance of SugarHill Steward. Although no official announcement has been made, if his camp really was as poorly-judged as Marriott suggests, it’s no surprise that the 36-year-old wants a crack at redemption.
