WARNING! This article contains SPOILERS for The Righteous Gemstones’ series finale.Baby Billy’s The Righteous Gemstones ending would have been stronger with the return of a season 2 character, but that actor reunion will still end up happening in Walton Goggins’ action series on Prime Video. Maintaining a long-standing working relationship with Danny McBride, Walton Goggins’ time as Uncle Baby Billy came to a close after six years and four seasons in The Righteous Gemstones’ series finale on May 4. After serving as one of the series’ fan-favorite characters, Baby Billy received a fitting, redemptive conclusion in the finale as he chose his wife and children over the prospects of fame.

As heartwarming as Baby Billy’s ending was, it’s difficult to ignore that his resolution left out a crucial family member. Missing from his series finale story was Macaulay Culkin’s Harmon Freeman, Baby Billy’s estranged son who he abandoned in 1993. The Righteous Gemstones season 2 ultimately gave Baby Billy and Harmon’s relationship a significant focus, as Goggins’ character attempted to reconnect with his son and right his wrongs. Despite their reconciliation before season 2’s ending, Baby Billy’s redemption as a father felt incomplete in the series finale without any mention of or reunion with Culkin’s The Righteous Gemstones character.

Though Macaulay Culkin and Walton Goggins never reunited as father and son in The Righteous Gemstones after their subplot in 2022, the two actors will be co-stars once again in the upcoming Fallout season 2. Goggins has starred in the main cast of Fallout as The Ghoul/Cooper Howard since the Prime Video adaptation’s debut, while Culkin was confirmed in late 2024 to be joining season 2 in an undisclosed role. While Fallout season 2 has officially wrapped production, there’s still no word yet on what exactly Culkin’s role entails.

However, it’s highly unlikely that the two will be played in another father-son type dynamic in Fallout. The 53-year-old Walton Goggins is actually only about nine years older than 44-year-old Macaulay Culkin, but the former’s character in The Righteous Gemstones was portrayed as being in his late 60s or early 70s. Though Goggins’ Ghoul is technically over 200 years old, Cooper’s family in the Fallout series is only referenced as including a wife and daughter.

Fallout Season 2 Could Give Walton Goggins & Macaulay Culkin Even More Screen Time Than In The Righteous Gemstones

Since there’s still no confirmation about who Macaulay Culkin is playing in the series, it’s unclear whether his character’s season 2 story will be tied into that of Walton Goggins’ Ghoul. However, with Ghoul being one of the main characters, it’s still expected that the two will interact, especially since Culkin is confirmed to be playing a recurring role. If Culkin ends up playing a relatively substantial role in the sci-fi TV show’s second season, then he may end up having even more screen time opposite Goggins than he did in The Righteous Gemstones.

Fallout season 2 will premiere on Prime Video in December 2025.

Culkin ended up only appearing in two episodes from The Righteous Gemstones‘ sophomore season. The first was when Baby Billy went to visit a grown-up Harmon at his home in The Righteous Gemstones season 2, episode 8, which culminated in their reconciliation after Culkin punched Goggins’ character in the face. Subsequently, Culkin only appeared briefly in The Righteous Gemstones’ season 2 finale as he watched Jesse, Judy, and Kelvin’s performance at the Gemstone Salvation Center. From that point on, Culkin’s character was entirely absent from Danny McBride’s HBO series.

Even if Culkin and Goggins only spend two full episodes of Fallout season 2 on-screen together, they’ll still have surpassed the scenes they shared in The Righteous Gemstones. Not to mention, there’s always the possibility that Culkin’s undisclosed character will end up becoming a staple in the series, potentially returning in Fallout season 3 and beyond. Of course, there’s no telling whether that will happen until Fallout season 2’s story plays out, but it would be exciting to see even more of Culkin and Goggins’ on-screen chemistry in the future after their father-son roles in The Righteous Gemstones.
