Last night, legends such as George Strait, Vince Gill, Ronnie Dunn and Sammy Kershaw performed at the Songs and Stories of Dean Dillon tribute concert along with the likes of current stars, Zach Top, Riley Green and ERNEST.
Dillon has a mile-long list of hit songs including Strait’s “Easy Come, Easy Go,” “Marina Del Ray” and “Ocean Front Property” and most notably “Tennessee Whiskey.” The Tennesee native has also cut songs with the likes of Kenny Chesney, Toby Keith, Alabama, Brooks & Dunn and even Hank Williams Jr. and Waylon Jennings.
Between Zach Top absolutely crushing a cover of Whitley’s “Miami, My Amy,” Strait performing “Here For a Good Time” and “Unwound” and Top, Riley Green and Justin Moore coming together to cover Hank Williams Jr., Waylon Jennings and Ernest Tubb’s “Leave Them Boys Alone,” there were plenty of memorable performances throughout the night.
One of the highlights of the night was undoubtedly Cody Johnson’s cover of Strait’s 1985 #1 hit, “The Chair,” which has often been referred to as one of the greatest country songs of all time.
We all know at this point that Johnson is one of the kings of country covers. Between his performances of The Chicks’ “Travelin’ Soldier,” Gary Stewart’s “She’s Actin’ Single (I’m Drinkin’ Doubles) or Lynyrd Skynyrd’s “The Ballad of Curtis Lowe,” the “Dirt Cheap” singer has proved time and time again that there’s no iconic song that he cannot nail.
If you’re a fan of Strait and Johnson, this is a must-watch.
