New Competition Series Coming To CBS With Blake Shelton, Taylor Sheridan, Keith Urban, And Gretchen Wilson Attached
At last, CBS has introduced the 12 emerging artists that will form the cast of the network’s new competition series, The Road.
In November, CBS unveiled the concept of The Road and the famous figures attached to the series. The network announced that former Voice coach Blake Shelton and Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan would serve as executive producers on the show.
PEOPLE reported that The Road will follow, “a headlining superstar on their journey to discover the next big artist.” That headlining superstar was later revealed to be country singer Keith Urban.
Contestants competing on The Road will open for Urban at concerts across the country. They’ll learn the ins and outs of being a touring artist, and see if they have what it takes to live that lifestyle.
“I know a thing or two about singing competitions and what it’s like to chase a music dream and live life on tour,” Blake Shelton said in a press release about the show. “I’m looking forward to discovering new talent and giving them this platform.“
The Road gained additional star power when “Redneck Woman” Gretchen Wilson announced she was serving as the series’ “tour manager.” As the tour manager, Wilson is in charge of ensuring the tour’s overall success while also serving as a mentor to the contestants.
“Helping them sharpen their talents to capture the attention of these crowds across America, and guiding them through the real and raw grind of life on the road, has been a highlight of my career,” Wilson said in a post about The Road.

The lights went down. The crowd hushed. Reba McEntire stood alone on the ACM stage—still, quiet, strong. She didn’t sing right away. Her voice caught a bit as she looked out, then she said, “This is for anyone who’s ever been called a country bumpkin… ever been laughed at just for being real.” Then came the first twang of “Okie from Muskogee.” The room went still. No noise, no movement—just Reba, singing for every small-town soul who never felt seen. It wasn’t just a song. It was a moment. For every grandpa in overalls, every hard-working mama, every kid who never fit in—it was theirs. No glitter. No flash. Just truth. As the chorus rose, so did hands and tears. Reba didn’t just start the show—she lit a fire in people’s hearts. For a few minutes, it wasn’t an awards show. It was a homecoming.
