The moving tribute was filmed at the Grand Ole Opry and aired on The Kelly Clarkson Show.

Craig Morgan and Jelly Roll teamed up to showcase their new, collaborative version of Morgan’s tune, “Almost Home” during Friday’s airing of The Kelly Clarkson Show as part of a special Veterans Day show.

Captured on the Grand Ole Opry stage, the performance opened with Morgan charming the audience with his soulful delivery of the opening verse before Jelly Roll joined him on stage to finish out the remainder of the track. The “Need A Favor” singer’s entrance prompted an uproar of applause from the live audience causing a big smile to spread across his face.

Together, they sang, “I just climbed out of a cottonwood tree / I was runnin’ from some honey bees / Drip dryin’ in the summer breeze / After jumpin’ into Calico creek / I was walkin’ down an old dirt road / Past a field of hay that had just been mowed / Man I wish you’d just left me alone / ‘Cause I was almost home.”

The pair took turns delivering the rest of the re-recorded song which appears on Morgan’s just released Enlisted EP. The project includes four reimagined versions of Morgan’s signature tunes in addition to two new tunes. Not only did he give these songs a new life, while introducing his latest writes, but Morgan also tapped a few of his fellow country music friends to join him, including Jelly Roll, Lainey Wilson, Blake Shelton, Gary LeVox, Trace Adkins, and Luke Combs.

Why Was Jelly Roll Chosen To Sing On The Duet Version?

The original recording of “Almost Home” appears on Morgan’s 2003 I Love It album and when it came time to find an artist to sing the latest version with him, the choice was clear.

As Morgan explained to Country Now, Jelly Roll has previously expressed his connection to the reflective tune, claiming it impacted his life during his incarceration and to this day inspires him as an artist.

“As much as it impacted his life, his story and his relationship with this song, it impacted mine. It humbled me. I do appreciate how much impact we can have as entertainers and as songwriters and singers, but to hear it from someone in our business and for him to be so forthcoming and so honest, it’s very humbling.”

The country hitmaker continued to boast about Jelly Roll’s character as well as his passion for music as he said, “I’m so proud of him, I’m proud of what he’s doing, I’m proud of his representation of our format, I’m proud of the love that this guy shares and shows with the world. His candor, his openness, it’s very humbling for me, and I’m grateful for that, I’m grateful for our friendship. Like I said, everybody thinks that it’s meant that much to him, it’s meant that much and more to me.”

Taking On A New Role In The U.S. Army Reserve

Craig Morgan just wrapped his headlining God, Family, Country Tour 2023, which was named after his personal memoir and launched in partnership with Operation Finally Home.

On top of releasing his Enlisted EP and bringing his music to stages across the country, Craig Morgan was sworn into the U.S. Army Reserve on the Opry Stage this July. His new role as Staff Sergeant and Warrant Officer candidate adds to his already impressive 17.5 years of active-duty service.

The multi-talented country star will honor his new responsibilities while also continuing to build his musical career.

Morgan has yet to announce his next set of tour dates, however, he recently announced that he will be headlining his first-ever White Pines Fest in Monterrey, TN in May.
