It’s hard to believe that anyone ever could have cheated on Lainey Wilson. But that’s exactly what happened to the “Hang Tight Honey” singer a few years ago. She opened up about that low time in her life during a recent conversation on Joel Madden’s Artist Friendly podcast.
Today, Wilson is in a happy and loving relationship with former NFL star Devlin “Duck” Hodges. The couple has been dating for several years but kept their relationship under wraps until 2023.
Wilson and Hodges still keep many details of their relationship private. However, they do attend some events as a couple and occasionally share posts together on social media.
For example, in October, Wilson shared a sweet video of her and Hodges riding in a side-by-side to the tune of her love song, “4x4xU.”
In a prior interview, Wilson said:
“When it comes to mine and Duck’s relationship, there’s going to be some things that we can’t escape, and people are going to say and do whatever, but me and him are on the same page about the less we put out there, the less that we’re going to have to deal with people making anything up and saying anything. We want to keep that as sacred as we possibly can between me and him, and so far, it has worked for us.”
A Past Boyfriend Cheated On Lainey Wilson During Her Early Days In Nashville
But Wilson sadly had to suffer a lot of heartbreak before she found love with Hodges. As she told Madden on the Artist Friendly podcast, one of her previous boyfriends cheated on her during her early days in Nashville.
“I was dating a boy who got [another] girl pregnant,” Wilson said.
Wilson discoverd this crushing news around the same time her mentor and family friend, Jerry Cupit, passed away. Cupit had connections in the music business, and he let Wilson live in her camper in his studio’s parking lot while she found her footing in Nashville. They also wrote hundreds of songs together.
Needless to say, losing Cupit and finding out about her boyfriend’s infidelity around the same time was devestating for Wilson. She said:
“It was all happening at the same time…I was like, when it rains, it pours. I’m telling you, I learned how to just embrace the heartbreak…I’m just like, is this happening to me? Like, am I getting punked? Is it happening just so I can have something to write about?”
Things did eventually change for the better in Wilson’s life. She’s now one of the top artists in country music, and gets to celebrate her success alongside someone who loves her wholeheartedly.
