In late July, many of the biggest artists in country music gathered at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee to honor the late Toby Keith.
Jelly Roll, Clay Walker, Ashley McBryde, Lainey Wilson, and many more took the stage to perform some of their favorite songs from Keith’s deep catalog. Tonight, fans will get to see all of those performances when Toby Keith: American Icon airs on NBC.

Jelly Roll might be a newcomer to country music but he’s not new to being a fan. He has stated several times that Keith inspired him to cross over into country music.
He shared how much the “Beer for My Horses” inspired him during his performance at the tribute concert. In the video below, he dedicates his performance of the 2011 chart-topper “My List” to Keith’s family.
“I would like to dedicate this to Tricia, Shelley, Krystal, Stelen, and Toby’s entire family,” Jelly Roll began.
“Toby inspired me to be a better American, a better human, a better songwriter, and with songs like this, most importantly, he inspired me to be a better father,” he added before kicking off the song.
“My List” is about a man who has a long to-do list. While there are countless errands and chores he needs to do, he would rather be spending quality time with his family. Finally, he decides to “start livin’” and make time to make memories with his family.
Jelly Roll Covers an Emotional Toby Keith No. 1
Rand Bishop and Tim James co-wrote “My List” and Toby Keith released it as the third and final single from his 2001 album Pull My Chain.
The song went to No. 25 on the Billboard Hot 100 and topped the publication’s Hot Country Songs chart for five consecutive weeks, giving Keith a massive crossover hit.
More than just a great example of a “checklist song,” “My List” is relatable for just about any busy parent.
In a life where there’s always something that seemingly needs to be done, they find themselves having to put off the things that are most important.
This song is a reminder to take time away from the chores, errands, and work to spend time with those you love.
Currently, Jelly Roll is balancing being one of the busiest artists in country music with raising a family. So, his connection to “My List” makes perfect sense.
