To provide context, former President Donald Trump was increasingly vocal in his criticism of Justice Juan Merchan’s daughter, who is actively involved in Democratic politics. His attacks followed her posting a meme depicting him behind bars on social media. Judge Merchan is overseeing the hush money case against Trump.

On March 27, 2024, Trump addressed Justice Merchan’s daughter on TruthSocial, stating, “So, let me get this straight, the Judge’s daughter is allowed to post pictures of her ‘dream’ of putting me in jail, the Manhattan D.A. can spread whatever falsehoods about me he wishes, the Judge can disregard our Laws and Constitution at every opportunity, yet I am not permitted to discuss the assaults against me, and the Lunatics attempting to ruin my life and hinder my success in the 2024 Presidential Election, which I am leading? Perhaps the Judge harbors such animosity because his daughter profits from efforts to ‘Get Trump,’ and when he consistently rules against me, he is enriching her company and her further. How can this be permissible?”

The assault occurred one day following Justice Merchan’s imposition of a gag order on Trump in anticipation of the trial set for April 15. He stated that the former President’s “pattern of attacking family members of presiding jurists and attorneys assigned to his cases serves no legitimate purpose. It merely injects fear in those assigned or called to participate in the proceedings, that not only they, but their family members as well, are ‘fair game’ for Defendant’s vitriol.”

Furthermore, Judge Merchan remarked, “It is no longer just a mere possibility or a reasonable likelihood that there exists a threat to the integrity of the judicial proceedings. The threat is very real.” He subsequently noted, “The average observer must now, after hearing Defendant’s recent attacks, draw the conclusion that if they become involved in these proceedings, even tangentially, they should worry not only for themselves, but for their loved ones as well. Such concerns will undoubtedly interfere with the fair administration of justice and constitutes a direct attack on the Rule of Law itself.”

It was the situation that caused Wallace to lose her temper and toss her script into the air. She accused the former president of issuing a “threat to the rule of law” by making comments about the justice’s daughter, asserting, “The threat to the rule of law posed by an ex-president who does not hesitate to target judges and their children is where we start today with some of our favorite reporters and friends.”

Furthermore, Wallace insisted that a “different” approach be taken regarding Trump, stating, “So, you know, it’s time to do something different. Like we’re not going to have this conversation again. I have come on the air with breaking news about requests for gag orders because of threats for judges and their kids more times than I can count today before I got ready.”

She stated, “Donald Trump has violated the rule of law, and it is imperative that we address the dysfunction within our judiciary. He has successfully postponed every federal criminal trial, relying on facts that he scarcely contests. Furthermore, he has involved the Supreme Court in this prolonged process, the highest judicial authority in the nation. Donald Trump audaciously and consistently targets not only judges… Judges do not have secret service protection.”

It was during her appeal for a “different” approach that Wallace expressed her frustration by throwing her script into the air. Observe her reaction here:
