Hailey Bieber Heads to the 2025 Met Gala with a Martini as She Attends Solo amid Justin Bieber’s Bong Controversy

On Monday, May 5, the model and beauty mogul, 28, left The Carlyle Hotel en route to fashion’s biggest night while carrying an unexpected accessory — a martini, complete with several olives — as she smiled and waved at paparazzi outside of the New York City hotel.

For this year’s gala, themed “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” Hailey wore a black blazer mini dress, and teamed the double-breasted moment with sheer tights; patent, platform pumps; and a whole lot of Tiffany & Co. bling. (Her martini was gone by the time she hit the red carpet.)

The star added pops of sparkle all over, including a bracelet and ring from Tiffany & Co.’s 2024 Tiffany Blue Book Collection, and a pair of glittering drop earrings, which peaked out from behind her wavy, side-parted hair. For glam, she wore her usual blushed, glowy base, and a glossy pink lip.

Justin, 31, was not by Hailey’s side for this year’s event, which comes one day after the singer added to ongoing concerns among his fans with latest social media post.

On Sunday, May 4, the “Peaches” singer posted a photo of himself appearing to smoke a bong on Instagram, which comes amid ongoing speculation about his mental health due to a number of vulnerable social media posts and an emotional plea to the paparazzi to stop photographing his every move.

Vogue announced Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky, Pharrell Williams and Anna Wintour would be co-chairs for this year’s Met Gala last October, alongside LeBron James as honorary chair. The event, which is held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, is a fundraiser for The Costume Institute and spotlights the museum’s spring 2025 exhibition, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style, which is the theme for the gala.

Curator in Charge Andrew Bolton shared that the exhibit, which is inspired by guest curator Monica L. Miller’s 2009 book Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity, explores “the Black dandy as both a concept and an identity signifier.”

The exhibit “presents a cultural and historical examination of Black style from the 18th century to the present through an exploration of the concept of dandyism,” according to a post on the museum’s Instagram.

The Met Gala’s dress code for this year is “Tailored for You,” a nod to the exhibition’s focus on menswear and suiting. The gala also has a star-studded host committee: Simone Biles and her husband, Jonathan Owens, as well as Doechii, Regina King, Spike Lee, Angel Reese and Usher.

Hailey and Justin, who tied the knot in September 2018, have only attended the annual event onve as a couple. Had they attended together this year, it would have marked the pair’s first major red carpet since they welcomed their son, Jack Blues Bieber, last August 2024.

Following the birth of their little one, the two have largely skipped out on large-scale events with the exception of Vanity Fair‘s Oscars afterparty, which Hailey attended solo, and Coachella, which the two attended together.

In recent months, rumors have been swirling around Hailey and Justin’s relationship, but a source told PEOPLE in March that “they have a great marriage” and “love being parents.”

The Biebers made their Met Gala debut as husband and wife in 2021. The Rhode Skin founder arrived in a black Saint Laurent gown with a structured embellished plunging neckline, cool black sunglasses and Tiffany & Co. jewels.

She walked hand-in-hand with her singer husband, who donned a sleek black tuxedo by La Maison Drew (an extension of his Drew House label that he has since severed ties with), painted sneakers and Jacquie Aiche jewelry.

“I feel like the Met is always just a very cool night to celebrate fashion,” Hailey told Keke Palmer on the red carpet. “We both love fashion, and we both love being able to celebrate designers.”

When asked about his style evolution over the years, Justin explained, “I think as I become more of an adult, things just [started] to evolve and change. I’m married now so I think things just become more… adult now.”

In 2022, Hailey surprised fans when she stepped out solo at the Met Gala shortly after she shared a lengthy video detailing the mini stroke and heart procedure she dealt with a few months prior.

On the carpet, she spoke with Vogue about going public with her health scare and diagnosis, stating, “I mean obviously it was a little bit hard to talk about … I felt like if it could help anybody, bring light to the situation … I just wanted to share my story.”

“I’m just happy that I’m okay and I’m healthy,” she added at the time.
