Caitlin Clark marked another career milestone on Tuesday in the Indiana Fever’s road game against the Connecticut Sun. This comes in the form of her first-ever game in Boston after the Sun decided to move the venue of Tuesday’s highly anticipated contest from their usual home base at Mohegan Sun Arena to the famed TD Garden.
WNBA teams have been constantly relocating venues when Clark and the Fever visit, in order to accommodate larger crowds. For Clark, however, this is her first opportunity to play in the same home court that the Boston Celtics call home.
Before the game, the reigning WNBA Rookie of the Year shared her thoughts on Tuesday’s milestone. Clark also revealed her honest opinion on the Celtics.
“Yeah, I mean, this is really, honestly, my first time to Boston. Obviously, if you’re a basketball fan, you grow up a fan, you love the Celtics. Well, maybe I guess you could hate them,” Clark said, which drew laughs from all around the room.
“But I think for myself, the Celtics is one of the premier organizations of the NBA. Like, you always grow up knowing what the Celtics are about, and obviously having won a championship two years ago now, it’s kind of cool to just be in this building and kind of surround yourself with the greatness that is played in this arena over the course of however many years.”
As Clark said, Jayson Tatum and the Celtics are just two years removed from winning a championship, which represents an NBA record 18 titles for the franchise. The Fever star is well aware of the history of this organization and this building, which is why she’s cherishing her first opportunity to play at TD Garden.
Clark then went on to discuss the support from the Boston faithful, even though the city does not have a WNBA team.
“I think it’s a great opportunity for people in this city or fans around the area to come and support a W team here,” she continued. “I know their game last year had great attendance and great energy, so I’m expecting the same tonight.
“But for myself, you don’t take these opportunities for granted. It’s always fun to go to a new arena in a new place and enjoy it, and I expect the same here tonight.”
At the end of the day, though, it’s still all about the win for Clark and the Fever. They blew out the Sun in their last meeting at Gainbridge Fieldhouse on June 17, 88-71, and they will be looking for a similar result on Tuesday.
