Rashad McCants drops a bombshell: North Carolina coaches couldn’t stand Michael Jordan! According to the former Tar Heel, the basketball legend’s larger-than-life presence and influence didn’t always sit well with the coaching staff. McCants suggests that Jordan’s dominance and personality may have clashed with the traditional structure and authority of the program, creating tension behind the scenes. This revelation adds a surprising layer to the legacy of one of basketball’s greatest icons and raises questions about how even the most celebrated athletes can face resistance in unexpected places.

Rashad McCants: ‘Coach Williams wanted to minimize. The whole thing with them is gatekeeping and controlling the flock. You got to control your players. Matt Doherty scolded me in a meeting. I had a good game. I won the game for us and he pulled me in the motherf*cking meeting and he was like, ‘I don’t know why you remind me of Michael Jordan so much, but we couldn’t stand him. And you come into the gym, walk past your teammates and think you’re the sh*t… When I’m thinking he going to tell me good game and he’s telling me about how he doesn’t like, that I remind him of Mike and he didn’t like Mike, and everybody knew it and he would never let me average over 20 points a game because Dean Smith never let Mike do it.’

Raymond Felton to Rashad McCants: “So I tried to be cool for a long time. I never said nothing about you when you did that [expletive] on ESPN. I never even said nothing to you. I canceled interviews because I wasn’t going to address it. But now you’re attacking my brothers. Now you’re attacking a legacy that we built—with your dumb ass—at Carolina. You talking about our coach, who did nothing but be great to us. [Expletive]—you went lottery. He went lottery. He a complainer. So it’s Coach Williams’ fault that you didn’t play long in the league? That’s his fault too, right? I played 14 years. Marv played more. There’s a lot of us who played many years of professional basketball from that team. But you’re the one who [expletive] your career up. -via YouTube / April 29, 2025
Raymond Felton: Like Theo said—take accountability for your dumb ass. But I’m done with you, bro. I’m done talking about you.” “I tried to give you your flowers, even on top of your [expletive], because you can play basketball—that’s one thing you can do. And you can look stupid, too—that’s another thing you can do. Because you’re doing that right now, talking this BS. You think people are liking what you’re saying? ’Cause of course, people like stupid [expletive], man. That’s what sells on TV. That’s what sells on social media. So you think you’re doing something, but you’re really looking like a fool, honestly. But you’re getting your money, though. So I ain’t mad at you. Get your money. Do all of that. That’s cool. That’s great. But as far as with us—[expletive]—you dead to me. Been dead to me for real. But dead to me. I would never speak your name again, ’cause you ain’t worth nothing. You ain’t worth my life. You ain’t worth anything, my [expletive]. Straight up.” -via YouTube / April 29, 2025
For years, there were whispers that Jordan and Pippen used that game to “send a message” to Kukoc over tensions with then-GM Jerry Krause. But Kukoc dismissed any notion of Michael trash-talking. “No I don’t think so,” he said. “Michael was one of those guys if you don’t wake him up, then he’s gonna play… but if you’re going to start talking trash to him, make SURE that you can cover it! Because if you can’t, he’ll hit you for 45-50 and make you feel each and EVERY bucket he scores.” -via ScoopB.com / May 6, 2025
Tim Reynolds: Most consecutive Game 1s with 30 or more points, NBA history … 8- Donovan Mitchell, 2020-2025 7- Michael Jordan, 1997-1998 7- Michael Jordan, 1991-1993 6- Michael Jordan, 1989-1990 6- Kobe Bryant, 2020-2012 6- Wilt Chamberlain, 1960-1964 5- Alex English, 1985-1986 -via Twitter @ByTimReynolds / May 4, 2025
Craig Hodges: “If you got better with MJ, you got better. It wasn’t never gonna be like—man, brother. Kobe would give you kudos if you getting better. That—I didn’t see that. I didn’t feel that with MJ. I was around him. And I seen how many players went the other direction because of how he demoralized them with his bravado. You know what I’m saying? Where it was unnecessary. You didn’t have to do that to that brother—because it’s a dirt. And that’s the thing—it’s a certain and different mentality and personality that we deal with too. Some players are hardcore and can deal with it. But other players gonna back up and, you know, subside to it.” -via YouTube / May 3, 2025
