SOCIAL MEDIA SHOCKER: Kelley Wolf DRAGGED AWAY by Police on Instagram Live—Detained and Rushed to Utah Hospital in Mysterious Midnight Incident

Law enforcement said they responded to a call for a woman “who needed some help”

Kelley Wolf was taken to a Utah hospital following an encounter with police that was captured on Instagram Live.

The author and public speaker, 48, was detained and handcuffed by sheriffs in Utah County, Utah on Friday, June 13. Wolf has been staying at the Sundance Resort in Sundance, Utah since Wednesday, PEOPLE understands.

The incident comes three days after she revealed in an Instagram post that she and her husband of 21 years, Party of Five star Scott Wolf, have split.

In a statement provided to PEOPLE, law enforcement confirmed that Kelley was admitted to a local hospital after being detained.

“Deputies responded to the Sundance Resort for a report of a female that needed some help,” the statement began. “Upon speaking with the female, our Deputies learned that she had made concerning comments to a family member, and she also made similar comments to our Deputies.”

The statement concluded, “For that reason, our Deputies transported the female to a local hospital.”

A spokesperson for the Utah County Sheriff’s Department exclusively confirmed to PEOPLE that Kelley was handcuffed in accordance with the department’s police.

“Typically, when we transport somebody in any of our patrol vehicles, they are placed in properly-fitted hand restraints, just for their protection and our protection as law enforcement as well,” the spokesperson said.

“So that’s what happened today: she was placed in hand restraints, placed into a vehicle, and transported by our deputies to a hospital,” he added.

Kelley shared a photo on Instagram Stories shortly after her Instagram Live, which showed her belongings in what appears to be a hospital room.

“This is horrible,” Kelley wrote in block text across the post. “I have been taken against my will. Please check on my kids.”

She added, “Also… I am happy!! Happier than I have ever been.”

Kelley continued, “I have NO idea why or how this is happening in AMERICA. I am compliant, calm and respectful, and hopefully this is all sorted very quickly. In the meantime, be kind to each other. This is one of the darkest things I’ve ever experienced.”

In her Instagram Live, which was subsequently posted to her main account, Kelley could be heard talking with police.

“Oh my God. Don’t. Oh my God, this is not happening,” Kelley said in the video, which only showed a black screen until the very end of the clip, when she is seen with Utah County sheriffs deputies.

Kelley told officers that she would “go on my own.” She was then handcuffed.

“This is shameful, gentlemen,” Kelley went on. “Look at this, look at this woman, this is shameful. Be ashamed, be ashamed of yourselves, gentlemen.”

One officer explained to Kelley that she is “not going to jail” and that they are going to get her “some help.” She then replied, “I know what I’m doing, I’ve done this. This is my job.”

The deputy was then heard telling Kelley that she had “made some comments to your dad and comments to people that are concerning,” so they “want to make sure you’re okay.”

After Kelley was informed by another officer that her phone was recording, she said she “didn’t mean to” record and asked that the phone be turned off.

Kelley has not responded to requests for comment from PEOPLE, and a rep for Scott did not immediately respond.
