Indiana Fever star Sophie Cunningham has been making headlines recently for taking on the role as her team’s enforcer.

Cunningham is in her first season with the Fever after being acquired in an offseason trade. She’s quickly made it a point to stick up for her teammates on the court–particularly Caitlin Clark–when opponents are getting physical with them.

Sometimes this self-appointed role gets Cunningham in trouble, like when she was ejected from a game against the Connecticut Sun earlier this month. However, it has also helped her social media popularity skyrocket and led to at least one new endorsement opportunity.

On Sunday, Cunningham appeared in an Instagram ad for Ring, touting the home security company’s ability to protect.

“In light of recent events, you guys know how serious I am about protecting my girls on the court,” Cunningham said. “But what’s protecting my home court, aka my actual home? The obvious choice is Ring.”

Cunningham is averaging 5.6 points and 4.1 rebounds in 22.2 minutes per game this season, but she’s clearly made a bigger name for himself outside of her stats.

She’s also completely embraced the position of bodyguard, and has made it known she doesn’t care what others may think of her, or her teammates.

“We are circled on everybody’s schedule,” Cunningham said after last Thursday’s loss to the Los Angeles Sparks. “No one likes us, right? Everyone in our locker room, that’s the only type of people that we have that we can lean on, and we’ve gotta be better in that area. We have got to stay disciplined, we have to stay focused, we need to get consistent and we gotta lean on each other. I think that we’ve kind of wavered a little bit on that.”

Cunningham and the Fever are 8-8 on the season heading into tomorrow night’s game against the Minnesota Lynx.
