Dez Bryant bets $100k on the winner of Terence Crawford vs. Canelo Alvarez

Terence Crawford and Canelo Alvarez might face off in the ring this September. The fight between the undefeated Crawford and the Mexican superstar Alvarez has got fans talking.

Crawford, known as “Bud,” boasts a perfect 41-0 record. At 37, the Omaha native has been chasing this fight for a while. Alvarez, with a record of 62-2-2, holds a slight weight advantage over Crawford.

The rumors of this potential matchup got stronger after Crawford and Alvarez met with His Excellency Turki Alalshikh in London. Julius Julianis, a well-known boxing journalist, says they’re looking at a September date for the fight.

Dez Bryant, a former Dallas Cowboys star, has put his money where his mouth is. Bryant, who admires Crawford, bet $100,000 on “Bud” to win.

Eddie Hearn, who runs Matchroom Boxing, thinks Alvarez will come out on top. He points to Crawford’s size disadvantage as the main reason. Demetrius Andrade agrees, saying Alvarez’s weight and power will be too much for Crawford.

David Benavidez, who holds titles in two weight classes, also backs Alvarez. He believes the difference in weight classes will play a big role.

But not everyone’s picking Alvarez. Oleksandr Usyk, the undisputed heavyweight champion, is rooting for his friend Crawford. Usyk said:

“I like Terence. He is my friend but he is a crazy man. I say Terence win. Listen, Terence is a different man.”

Crawford, who many consider the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world, will have to overcome a 14-pound weight difference to beat Alvarez. But Alvarez can’t afford to be overconfident.

Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez and Terence Crawford have finally agreed to face each other. The fight will happen in September 2024 in Las Vegas, with both stars set to compete at the 168-pound super middleweight limit.

Julius Julianis broke the news on social media, citing sources close to the operation. The agreement came after Canelo and Crawford met with Saudi official Turki Alalshikh in London last weekend.

Alalshikh, who serves as Saudi Arabia’s Minister and Chairman of the General Entertainment Authority, likely played a key role in making the fight happen.

September 13 has been rumored as the potential fight date, but this hasn’t been confirmed yet. The bout will pit two of boxing’s biggest stars against each other, with both fighters boasting impressive records and achievements.

Saul Canelo Alvarez, the 34-year-old Mexican star, holds a record of 62 wins, 2 losses, and 2 draws, with 39 knockouts. He currently holds the WBA, WBO, and WBC titles in the 168-pound division.

In his last fight, Canelo defeated Edgar Berlanga by unanimous decision at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas in September 2023. He followed that up with a victory over Jaime Munguia in May 2024, marking his fourth successful title defense.

Terence Crawford, the 37-year-old American boxer, brings an undefeated record of 41 wins with 31 knockouts to the table. He’s a two-division undisputed champion and has won titles in four weight classes. Crawford last fought in August 2024, defeating Israil Madrimov by unanimous decision at BMO Stadium in Los Angeles. That win earned him the WBA super welterweight and interim WBO 154-pound titles.

For this fight, Crawford will move up two weight classes to challenge Canelo at super middleweight. It’s a big jump for Crawford, but the opportunity to face one of boxing’s biggest stars likely made the decision easier.

“Crawford’s skills are incredible. He’s moving up in weight, but he’s shown he can handle bigger opponents before. This fight will be a real test for both guys,” said boxing analyst Mike Johnson.

Before facing Crawford, Canelo might have another fight lined up for May 2024. He’s expected to face William Scull, the undefeated Cuban IBF 168-pound champion. If that fight happens, it will give Canelo a chance to unify all four major titles in the division before taking on Crawford.
