However, Carmelo Anthony still believes that these outstanding athletes cannot be considered the face of the NBA.

Carmelo Anthony recently appeared on the “7 PM in Brooklyn” podcast and commented on Anthony Edwards’ recent statements about wanting to become the face of the league. During the discussion, Anthony sparked controversy by claiming that players like Wembanyama, Doncic, Antetokounmpo, and Gilgeous-Alexander cannot be the face of the league because they are not American.

“Wemby can’t be the face of the NBA because he’s not from America…Luka can’t be the face. Giannis can’t be the face. Shai can’t be the face. Ant, Ja, Jayson Tatum, these are the faces. Zion was suppose to be a face of this NBA,” Anthony said.

Although Wembanyama will miss the rest of the season due to deep vein thrombosis in his right shoulder, he has already achieved several impressive milestones. Doncic, Antetokounmpo, and Gilgeous-Alexander continue to showcase their dominance in the ongoing 2024-25 NBA season.

Carmelo Anthony Weighs In On LeBron James Missing The 2025 NBA All-Star Event

The 2025 NBA All-Star Weekend captivated basketball fans with a variety of exciting events. However, Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James’ absence disappointed many viewers.

Despite being selected for his 21st NBA All-Star Game, James missed the event due to foot and ankle soreness, which ended his impressive streak of consecutive All-Star starts at 20. In a recent episode of the “7 PM in Brooklyn” podcast, Anthony discussed James’s absence from the 2025 NBA All-Star Game.

“The man has been playing for 23 years. The man has been to twenty-something All-Star Games. The only issue is he should have just given it to somebody. That’s the only thing.” Anthony said.

James showcased exceptional skills in the recent game against the Portland Trail Blazers, scoring 40 points. The Lakers currently hold the fifth spot in the Western Conference standings with a 33-21 record. They will play their next game against the Denver Nuggets at Ball Arena.
