Kelly Clarkson Speaks Out: The Rumors Are Finally Confirmed!

Kelly Clarkson will not replace Katy Perry on American Idol. Despite hope from her fans, the 42-year-old told Deidre Behar that she wouldn’t be on American Idol. As quoted on Entertainment Tonight, Clarkson said, “I promised my kids I wouldn’t.” I wanted to be there as much as I could. I would have to move to L.A., which is why I had to quit The Voice. I miss them.”

This ends the chance of the show’s most famous winner returning as a judge. In 2002, Kelly Clarkson won American Idol with her debut single, “A Moment Like This,” which topped the Billboard Hot 100. Clarkson is one of the most successful singers in competition history. She has also had a successful T.V. career. Clarkson announced American Idol at the 51st Daytime Emmy Awards, where she and her team won an Emmy for Outstanding Daytime Talk Series. Clarkson is one of the country’s best-loved talk show hosts.

Many famous names are being linked with the vacant American Idol judging position, but it is still being determined who will get the role. Some fans think Meghan Trainor will get the job. She told Entertainment Tonight that she wants it. In an interview, Trainor said she wants to be a judge on American Idol. That would be my dream come true. Please consider me for your show. American Idol, please! Please! I’m ready. “I would love to.”

The Kelly Clarkson Show host—who shares River, 10, and Remy, 8, with ex Brandon Blackstock—revealed whether or not she’s holding out hope for a “unicorn moment” of finding love three years after her divorce.

“Yeah, I mean, I hope it does!” Kelly told Jenna Bush Hager and guest cohost Matt Rogers on the May 6 episode of Today with Jenna and Friends. “I will say, I’m not not looking and I’m not looking. I’m very busy. You get this as a mom. I’ve got to focus right now. There’s a lot of work.”

“My kids’ schedule I feel like is busier than mine,” the 43-year-old continued. “I’m running from my show to baseball practice and I’m trying to be just there. It’s a lot. My mom will tell me, ‘Look, I was a single mom. I didn’t get to make everything. They’re gonna be fine. You turned out fine.’”

Kelly went on to share that she’s trying to carve out more time for herself, especially when she’s on the road for work.

“In all honestly, I’ve had a lot of people always in my career be very cruel and be like, ‘You look slutty if you wear this,’” Kelly added. “I’ve never been able to be just be what I want for that moment for what that song calls for.”

And, as she put it, her new single called for “a sexy moment.

“It’s a song about that intimate moment where you finally go, ‘Wow, I just found the unicorn situation, and I did not know that was on the bingo card for my life,’” Kelly shared, “and I wanted the sexiness for that.”

“I am just trying to be there as much for them and we’re a cute little unit,” the American Idol champ said. “I am trying to adult more. So for Mother’s Day weekend I do have a couple shows, but my kids aren’t coming. So I do get to be an adult with my band having drinks and having adult time.”

The topic of Kelly’s dating life came up when the trio were discussing the music video for her latest single “Where Have You Been?” in which she wears a sheer gown with a plunging neckline.
