This Shared Skincare Ritual Keeps Jennifer Aniston and Courteney Cox Glowing

Jennifer Aniston and Courteney Cox became household names after appearing on Friends for 10 years. Like many women in the entertainment industry, Aniston and Cox both try to take care of their appearance really well. They even have a skincare ritual that they love and not many people have heard of.

Hollywood is not always kind to older women. Actors have opened up about how the industry refuses to write for and cast women past a certain age.

In an interview with New Beauty, Cox talked about the issue of aging. She said, “I feel like I’m 34, so the thought that I’m not just doesn’t seem natural… I take much better care of myself now. But Hollywood—this business—makes it harder. I grew up thinking that appearance was the most important thing. That’s kind of sad because it got me in trouble. I was trying so hard to keep up, and I actually made things worse.”

Aniston had her own things to say about aging as well. She told Allure, “Very little offends me, but what I do think is becoming dated are things like, ‘Oh, you look great for your age.’ Because at a certain point, you should start to look like shit? Because that’s what that is implying. Like, ‘You should look like hell right now!’

Regardless of how they feel about aging, both Aniston and Cox try to take good care of their appearance—in particular, their skin.

The two actors use a mixture of beauty products as well as expensive treatments. One ritual they have is going into an infrared sauna. Speaking to Shape, Aniston talked about her and Cox’s love for infrared saunas.

“I have an infrared sauna that I fell in love with,” Aniston said. “My friend Courteney Cox-you may know her-had a portable infrared sauna that you go into. It kind of looks like a little igloo. It’s such a game changer in terms of your skin detoxification and cell rejuvenation.”

Aniston shared that she tried to use the infrared sauna twice a week after a gym session.

Gwyneth Paltrow approves of infrared saunas as well

Aniston and Cox are not the only stars who like infrared saunas. Gwyneth Paltrow seems to approve of them as well. Her wellness website, Goop, has talked about them, including in a blog post titled, “The Power of Infrared Saunas.”

According to Dr. Alejandro Junger, whom Goop talked to, infrared saunas allow the body to sweat and mimic a fever, which boosts the immune system.

“Sweating inside a heated space has transcended time and many cultures: From Roman times, to the Ancient Greeks and Russians, as well as the Native Americans who had sweat lodges, the benefits of sweating have been known to mankind,” Dr. Junger said. “The skin is our largest organ, and sweat is one of the major elimination channels for toxins.”
