Kyrie Irving will probably not be donning the USA colors anymore.

Irving has already won the Olympic gold medal with America back in 2016. Now, he is trying to get himself an Australian eligibility. With the 2028 Olympics coming up in three years’ time, the Dallas Mavericks’ guard will be navigating his options for a possible Australian representation.

Irving is currently in the middle of a pretty impressive stint with the Mavericks. With an average of 24.6 points per game, 4.8 rebounds, and 4.8 assists from 44 games, Irving can surely prove to be an asset for the Australian national team. The Mavericks’ star too, agreed on the news.

“Man, we’re in the process of that right now, just trying to figure out the best route for me to be eligible,” Irving chimed in. He further added, “There’s a lot of paperwork involved. Obviously, USA still has a decision to make, but for me, I’m just trying to do what’s best. Honestly, if I can be an Aussie at one point in my career and play for the Australian team, that would be great.”

Well, such a radical decision does not come out of whims for Irving. As per the reports, the cause traces back to the Paris Olympics. The 32-year-old was not included in the Paris Olympics squad. This was after the NBA star made his interest in playing for the US national team known to Grant Hill. Meanwhile, this is not the only somber experience Irving has had in recent times. Relishing a brotherly bond with Luka Doncic, his sudden departure had a deep impact on the Mavericks’ star.

Kyrie Irving Reflects On His Bond With Luka Doncic

Kyrie Irving and Luka Doncic were one of the best team ups in the NBA. Unfortunately, their reign of dominance was cut short by a shocking trade that took place recently. Missing his friend dearly, Irving reflected on how he has kept his contact with the 25-year-old NBA star.

We’ve texted back and forth. I’ve let him know that regardless of how this NBA business shakes out…We’re loyal to each other’s families now. We had a lot of sacred conversations that went beyond the court, and just helping each other as men,” Irving opined.

Thus, with things looking quite interesting with Kyrie Irving at the moment, it remains to be seen how things pan out next.
