Kim Kardashian playfully called out her mom, Kris Jenner, for what she saw as a blatant attempt to steal the spotlight.

The moment unfolded on social media after Kim posted a glamorous set of photos from a recent high-profile event. Dressed in a custom-made Balenciaga gown, the SKIMS mogul dazzled her millions of followers. But just as Kim’s post started gaining traction, Kris Jenner swooped in with a surprise post of her own—one that had fans raising their eyebrows.

Kris, known for her impeccable timing and marketing genius, shared a throwback photo of herself in a nearly identical dress from the early ‘90s, captioning it, “Like mother, like daughter. Fashion is in our DNA! #TBT.”

Almost instantly, Kim took to the comments section, writing, “Mom, seriously?! Did you really have to post this right now?” followed by a series of laughing emojis. Fans quickly picked up on the playful tension, with some joking that Kris had been waiting for the perfect moment to overshadow Kim.

The post sparked a flurry of reactions. Some followers sided with Kim, saying, “Kris really does know how to steal the spotlight,” while others defended the Kardashian matriarch, writing, “It’s her world, we’re all just living in it.”

Sources close to the family insist that Kim’s reaction was all in good fun, but those familiar with Kris’s legendary business savvy know she never does anything by accident. “Kris is the ultimate mastermind,” an insider told Hollywood Buzz. “She knows exactly how to stay relevant, and sometimes that means outshining her own kids—just a little.”

Kardashian had something to say about her mom’s latest Instagram post, which she shared on the same day her daughter announced her NikeSKIMS collab

On Tuesday, Feb. 18, Kardashian, 44, playfully accused Jenner, 69, of trying to steal her thunder after the momager posted a photo of herself wearing another activewear brand on the same day that her daughter announced her NikeSKIMS collab.

As Jenner posted a photo of herself sitting on a staircase wearing a charcoal hoodie, matching sweatpants and white socks from Alo, Kardashian took to the comments section to write, “Did you really have to post this on the same day as my NikeSKIMS announcement?!?!?!”

Jenner captioned the post, “Cozy days in my @alo.”

Kardashian had announced her shapewear and clothing brand’s latest collab hours earlier in a post on Instagram.

“Introducing NikeSKIMS. A new brand coming this spring for the body obsessed. Designed to sculpt and engineered to perform,” she wrote alongside a photo of the two brand’s logos side by side. The post was followed by a photo of a branded lanyard featuring a pass with a passport-style picture of Kardashian.

“Nike and SKIMS share a deep commitment to innovation, inclusivity and pushing boundaries, driven by an unwavering belief in the power of women,” Kardashian shared in a statement on her Instagram Stories. “This partnership is the culmination of this shared vision, delivering product that is meticulously designed to sculpt and perform for every body. Every single detail has been obsessed over and carefully considered. We’re incredibly excited to unveil our first collection this spring.”

Kardashian launched SKIMS back in 2019 with the help of Jens Grede, the husband of Emma Grede, who co-founded Good American with Kim’s sister Khloé Kardashian.

In a June 2023 cover story with TIME magazine, Kim said that of all her brands, the business is the one most personal to her.

“It’s just a part of me,” she said  “I take it really personally. It started off of my body and my shapes, and it’s very vulnerable.”
