NBA Insider shares insights regarding “Luka Magic’s” integration into the Purple and Gold.

LeBron James breaks silence on ex-Mavericks star Luka Doncic's slow start with Lakers

Luka Doncic’s arrival in Los Angeles has been nothing short of exciting for Lakers Nation, who believe the Slovenian talent will carry forward the historic legacy of the franchise in what could be the perfect storybook ending, with LeBron James passing the baton to the 25-year-old.

Doncic, who was recently traded from the Dallas Mavericks, has been making a progressive recovery from his calf injury. The reigning scoring champion’s exit from Dallas has fueled various narratives and speculations, especially about his poor conditioning levels.

However, if the latest reports are anything to go by, “Luka Magic” has been actively debunking all of those stories. Addressing the developments, ESPN’s Shams Charania disclosed how the Lakers front office has been content with the ex-Mavs guard’s dedication.

“Taking to people in that Lakers organization in that front office, they’ve been impressed with how he’s been able to learn about teammates…They feel he’s very LeBron Jamesesque in the way he’s tried to really get to know his teammates,” revealed Shams.

Working out in Cabo with Scott Brooks

Shedding light on concerns about his work ethic, the NBA Insider discussed how Doncic remained locked in, dealing with one of the most significant injuries of his career.

To make the most of the All-Star break, Doncic traveled to Cabo, accompanied by Lakers assistant coach Scott Brooks. According to Shams, the player-coach duo was spotted working out daily during the trip.

“He (Doncic) has been putting in daily work on the court, in the weight room, even to the point where he went to Cabo over the All-Star break.”

The five-time All-Star had the perfect mentor in Brooks to help him with a speedy rehabilitation. Guiding talents for 25 years, the former NBA player turned coach has built an impressive resume. Some of the popular names associated with his training include Kevin Durant, Bradley Beal and Russell Westbrook.

Brooks had his best run in Oklahoma and was crowned COTY in 2010. The 59-year-old also made it as the All-Star head coach in 2012 and 2014. He coached the Washington Wizards from 2016 to 2021 and made three playoff appearances during his tenure.

Breakthrough against the Denver Nuggets

After a rather slow start to his Lakers journey, Doncic seems to be finding his groove back. Playing against the Denver Nuggets on Saturday night, “Luka Magic” was on full display. Filling up the stat sheet, the ex-Mavs star recorded a 32-point double-double, which included 4-for-9 shooting from the 3-point line.

The All-NBA player ensured his team never trailed against the 2023 champions. With four of the five starters putting up 20+ points, it was a moment of jubilation for JJ Redick and crew. All eyes are now on Tuesday night’s game as Doncic welcomes his former team, Mavericks, at the Crypto.com Arena.
