Shams Charania reveals how Luka Doncic is already fascinated after seeing basketball players being treated as superstars in Hollywood.

One team, one city, forever" - Shams Charania shares why Luka Doncic has already started enjoying his time with the Los Angeles Lakers

Given that Luka Doncic never asked to be traded to the Los Angeles Lakers, the franchise might have the challenging task of convincing him to commit long-term in the upcoming summer.

However, Shams Charania subtly reassured fans that there’s no reason for concern, emphasizing that “The Don” has never been one to chase money or tailor his career to fit a specific team. Instead, his mindset has always been to make one franchise his home, just as he did in Dallas until he was allowed to let go.

“He had no intention of leaving Dallas. He had just bought a new home for a lofty price, and he did not want to go anywhere,” Charania said. “You think of a player coming from abroad, they’re very committed, very loyal, and that’s how he viewed himself with the Mavericks – one team, one city, forever. That’s gonna carry over to the Lakers.”

Luka is loving it in Hollywood

Though the five-time All-Star’s career with the Purple and Gold got off to a rocky start — he’s averaging just 14.6 points on 36.5 percent from the field and 20.9 percent from beyond the arc over his first three games — Doncic quickly realized he needed to let the game come to him to adjust promptly to coach JJ Redick’s system. As a result, he logged three games over 28 points over the next five appearances, including two double-doubles and a triple-double.

According to Charania, Luka is finding his rhythm not just on the court but also by growing comfortable with the Lakers’ culture and the way the fans treat their players as larger-than-life figures. That has reportedly made him fall in love with his new team.

“I think he’s loving his time in L.A. You think about what the Lakers brand is – treating stars like stars, it’s Hollywood,” Charania added. “It’s making star players bigger than life. That’s what we are going to see with Luka Doncic.”

Success can guarantee Doncic’s time with the Lakers

Many were sure that trading for the Slovenian guard was the Lakers’ way of signaling their intent to contend for championships starting next season. However, with the Purple and Gold currently holding the second seed in the loaded Western Conference, courtesy of winning 18 of their last 22 games, it’s clear that his presence is already elevating their title hopes.

And if Luka comes within reach of, or even secures, the Larry O’Brien trophy in his first campaign with the Lakers, he might not even care about any potential financial sacrifices next season. As someone who prioritizes winning above all else, his focus will likely remain on chasing silverware rather than maximizing his earnings.
