Blake Lively has been accused of ‘cultural appropriation’ after an advertisement resurfaced of her claiming to be Cherokee.

The actress, 37, who is currently embroiled in a dramatic lawsuit against It Ends With Us co-star Justin Baldoni, has been slammed after she starred in a diverse L’Oreal Paris True Match foundation commercial in 2017.

The blonde hair, blue-eyed Gossip Girl star said: ‘I’m English, Irish, German and Cherokee. So my family’s sort of from all over.

‘To look back far into my heritage and see where everybody came from, you know, it’s neat to be in this country that has such diversity and such culture.’

TikToker Stephanie Tleiji reposted the clip on Sunday and said: ‘I was today years old learning about this honestly.’

The video has already racked up 3.8million views on the platform as people commented their thoughts, with some Native Americans criticising Lively at the time.

Some even accused Lively of cultural appropriation, which is the act of taking or using things from a culture that is not your own, according to the Cambridge Dictionary.

One wrote: ‘It’s giving appropriation… her great great great grandmother twice removed must be a Cherokee princess.’

Another penned: ‘It literally never ends with her…’

A third said: ‘I swear it’s always Cherokee when people claim they have native ancestry.’

A fourth commented: ‘She literally has never been on the right side of history.’

Elsewhere in the advertisement, mother-of-four said she was ‘obsessed’ with colours before saying: ‘There’s such a variety of colours because everyone’s skin has such different nuances.’

Lively added that she enjoyed the natural ‘no makeup’ look and said she wanted a product that could enhance her beauty without adding a ‘mask’ on top of her face.

In 2016, she was accused of racism after she shared a split of two images from the Cafe Society premiere with the caption ‘L.A face with an Oakland booty’.

She came under fire for being ‘white and privileged’ but using Black women and culture ‘as a punchline’.

Lively recently found herself in hot water again after another clip appeared of her admitting she would ‘put bronzer’ all over herself and wear a Scary Spice wig to ‘stalk guys.’

Lively was accused of wearing blackface to ‘stalk men’ as she joked about using makeup and a wig to make herself look Black.

In the resurfaced interview posted to TikTok, Lively and Justin Long, 46, were talking to MTV while promoting 2006 film Accepted when she admitted to tricking her crush as a teenager.

After telling the interviewer she was a ‘total geek’ – which was laughed at by Long – the Gossip Girl actress launched into the story.

‘My best friend and I when we were in 10th grade had like crazy crushes, we’d drive around like stalking these guys,’ Lively said in the interview.

‘We decided one night to go to the arcade where they were and I put bronzer all over myself and a Scary Spice ‘fro so I think they’d think I was a Black girl, so I could stalk them and my friend dressed up as this goth girl and we literally sat outside their houses,’ she shared.

Her co-stars didn’t bat an eyelid, with Long responding with: ‘So that makes you sweet and charming, you’re still hot.’

Lively also faced renewed backlash for marrying her husband Ryan Reynolds on a plantation in 2012.

The couple infamously tied the knot at Boone Hall Plantation & Gardens in South Carolina in an intimate ceremony attended by several celebrity pals.

The couple’s 2012 nuptials at Boone Hall were attended by 35 guests and came just months after Reynolds popped the question.

The stunning backdrop to the couple’s nuptials has a dark history of slavery, with ‘preserved’ slave cabins and fields of cotton serving as a constant reminder of the horrors that once took place there.

The hall is one of America’s oldest working plantations. In the 19th century it was owned by Henry and John Horlbeck who were in the brick business, building many of the public spaces in downtown Charleston using brick from the plantation.

By 1850, Boone Hall was producing 4,000,000 bricks per year using 85 slaves.

The plantation has also been owned by a Georgian prince while since the 1950s it has been owned by the McRae family, who opened the 738 acre estate up to public tours in 1956.

Lively and Reynolds were widely criticized for seemingly glamorizing the former plantation where Black slaves suffered and died.

Years later, the Deadpool actor branded the wedding ‘a giant f***ing mistake’ in a 2020 interview.

The ‘shame’ felt by the couple was so strong that Reynolds and Lively decided to wed for a second time at their New York home.

They’ve also gone on to donate millions to the NAACP Legal Defense and Education Fund and have been vocal about their support of the Black Lives Matter movement.
