The season 23 finale of “American Idol” on May 18, 2025, was a three-hour spectacle of celebrity performances, group songs delivered by contestants from the top 14, and the final night of competition between the top 3 — John Foster, Breanna Nix, and Jamal Roberts.

Viewers had less than three hours to vote for who they thought should win and the first cut came halfway through the show, when host Ryan Seacrest revealed that the third place spot belonged to Nix. Roberts and Foster spent the rest of the night on pins and needles, waiting to hear the final results.

After the final commercial break, Seacrest would reveal who would be the next “American Idol.” And the answer? You’re 2025 “American Idol” winner is… Jamal Roberts!
