The song was released as part of the deluxe edition of Carpenter’s album ‘Short n’ Sweet,’ which dropped on Valentine’s Day

Sabrina Carpenter and Dolly Parton are joining forces!
On Friday, Feb. 14, the singer, 25, released a collaborative rendition of her 2024 song “Please Please Please” for the new deluxe edition of her album Short n’ Sweet, which also dropped on Valentine’s Day.
Teaming up with Parton, 79, for the duet, the musicians put a country twist on the pop track and filmed a vintage-inspired music video that appears to have a not-so-subtle nod to Carpenter’s ex, actor Barry Keoghan.
Keoghan, 32, famously featured in the original music video for “Please Please Please” while the pair were dating. The video sees the former couple start a relationship after being released from jail, but after Keoghan returns to his criminal ways and is arrested again, Carpenter takes matters into her own hands by handcuffing him to a chair and taping his mouth shut before planting a kiss on his lips and abandoning him in an empty warehouse.
In the new music video, Carpenter hits the road with Parton in a truck as they sing the lyrics of the track, before Parton is later seen handing a shovel to Carpenter who is stood in the back of the vehicle. The police soon catch up to the duo and start chasing them, with the camera then panning to a male who has been handcuffed in the back of the truck with a sack on his head and is wearing the same outfit as Keoghan did in the original video.
The video, which was filmed in Nashville per a press release obtained by PEOPLE, ends with Carpenter pulling over and shaking her head as the person in the back attempts to scream and bangs on the truck.
The song also features a lyric change, with Carpenter and Parton taking it in turns to sing, “I beg you, don’t embarrass me, like the others,” a switch-up from the original, “I beg you, don’t embarrass me, mother——.” When “Please Please Please” was first released, it was believed to contain plenty of cheeky lyrical references to the Saltburn star, including the line, “I heard that you’re an actor, so act like a stand-up guy.”

Carpenter and Keoghan dated off and on for about a year before deciding to take a break, PEOPLE previously reported in December 2024. “They are both young and career-focused, so they’ve decided to take a break,” a source told PEOPLE at the time.
The former couple made their red carpet debut at the 2024 Met Gala.

Sharing a snippet of the music video on her Instagram page, Carpenter said she was “so honored” to collaborate with music icon Parton.
“Dolly and me singing in a pickup truck!!!!!!,” her caption read alongside the pair taking turns to drive. “I am so honored to have one of my biggest idols on a song that means so much to me. ‘Short n’ Sweet’ deluxe is out now! Go watch and listen!!!!”
“Love you forever @dollyparton ,” she added.

Carpenter released the original music video for her Jack Antonoff-produced single back in June 2024.
Meanwhile, in addition to the duet with Parton, the two-time Grammy winner’s new deluxe edition features four other songs, including “Busy Woman” which she debuted live on her sold-out Short ‘n’ Sweet tour.
Other new tracks include “15 Minutes,” “Couldn’t Make It Any Harder” and “Bad Reviews.”

“Originally released last August, Short n’ Sweet topped the charts worldwide and had one of the biggest global debuts of 2024,” the release reads. “Upon release, Short n’ Sweet skyrocketed to the top for three consecutive weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, becoming only the second album in 2024 to spend its first three weeks atop the list. The album’s opening track, ‘Taste,’ captured #1 on Spotify’s US chart, dethroning Sabrina’s own ‘Please Please Please’ and making it the 3rd song off her album to hit #1.”
