The country music icon talks to PEOPLE StyleWatch about her makeup routine, what inspires her and whether she’ll ever clean out her closets
Dolly Parton is … well, she’s a legend.
She’s someone who needs no introduction and who has done it all in her 78 years. She’s written chart-topping hits, she’s starred in award-winning movies and she’s loved by pretty much everyone for her good deeds (that she does simply because they make her feel happy).
The Grammy-winning country music star — who most recently launched her Dolly Beauty collection of lip and eye makeup products — is one of the greats, and there was no better person to ring in the new year with.
To celebrate the end of the year, PEOPLE StyleWatch sat down with the star herself to quiz her on some of her “lasts,” including her last perfect day, the last thing she splurged on and more!

Last thing you splurged on
Well, I don’t remember. Probably it would probably be makeup ’cause I’m always sending somebody out to pick up something that I’ve seen somebody wear. Or I’ll talk to one of my nieces who loves to wear makeup and say, “What is that?” Sometimes I’ll just send somebody out to pick that up. I don’t think of anything as a splurge anyway. If I want it, I just get it.

Last perfect day
On my last perfect day, well, I had a day off and I got to spend that whole day with my husband [Carl Thomas Dean]. I’ve worked so much that we don’t often have all the long, full days that we used to have when life was not as complicated. Anytime I have some time off, that’s always a good day for me and for him, for us to have time off.
Last thing you do before you go on stage to perform
I pray and I pee. I usually pee before I pray, because I’m usually praying just as I go out. It’s not always the same prayer, but I always basically just ask God to let me make everybody happy and let me shine with his light and let me love people and let them love me and let that go up where it belongs.

Last time you felt inspired
Oh, about 10 minutes ago. I’m always inspired just when I wake up in the mornings and I see that the world is still standing and that I’ve still got a job and that there’s still a world out there that I might try to make a little better if I can. I’m inspired just by every sunrise.

Last step in your makeup or skincare routine
Cleaning the face and putting on the foundation and then putting on the makeup. And probably the very last thing of my makeup routine would be put on the lip gloss.

Last thing you’d ever get rid of in your closet
Some of the old things that I’ve had all these years and somebody says, “You need to get rid of this. You need to get rid of that.” I’ll just say, “You leave me alone. I’ll get rid of that if I ever feel the need to.” It’s more than just one thing.
