In addition to McEntire, Post Malone will perform “America the Beautiful” and Andra Day will sing “Lift Every Voice and Sing” at the big game
Reba McEntire is more than ready for her performance at Super Bowl LVIII.
The country superstar will sing the national anthem ahead of the big game in Las Vegas on Sunday, and she told Apple Music in a new interview that she’s been preparing for the performance in a very relatable way.
“I’ve been singing the national anthem in the shower [and] when we get in the car,” said McEntire, 68, referencing car rides with her boyfriend, actor Rex Linn, who’s a “huge football fan.”

“He’ll say, ‘OK, sing it one more time.’ I said, ‘I think I know the words real good right now, so I’m alright,’” added the Grammy winner of her preparation process, noting that it “helps” to “know that everybody’s gonna be singing it with me” at Allegiant Stadium.
“If I know they’re singing along, and they’re remembering and having fun too, that’s easier on me, but just to be prepared when you walk out there,” said McEntire, who’s been singing the national anthem at sporting events since she was a teenager.

Elsewhere in the interview, the “Fancy” singer spoke about feeling “honored beyond words” to sing at the Super Bowl for the first time and opened up about what the moment means to her.
“I get to sing a very special song for all Americans, people all around the world, who have really worked so hard for our freedom and to give us peace,” she told Apple Music host Nadeska Alexis. “It’s not about me — I’m the representation of this song, and I’m just honored to get to sing it. It’s a good one. I’ve been doing it for 50 years, and I’m really proud to get to sing it.”

Sunday’s game will mark McEntire’s second time ever attending a Super Bowl. She previously watched the Dallas Cowboys compete against the Pittsburgh Steelers at Mountain America Stadium (formerly Sun Devil Stadium) in Tempe, Arizona, in 1996.

Now, she’s especially excited because Super Bowl LVIiI is in one of her favorite cities. “I love Las Vegas. My first time here was in ’83 with the Statler Brothers, opening for them at the MGM Grand,” said McEntire. “[The Super Bowl has] never been in Nevada, the state of Nevada, so this is a first for a lot of things, and I’m just tickled to pieces to be a part of it.”

The “I’m a Survivor” musician also shared what she plans to do in Las Vegas following the Super Bowl: “Eat. You go see as many shows as you can, you eat. The food is spectacular. Maybe hit a little shopping.”
In addition to McEntire’s rendition of the national anthem, Post Malone will sing “America the Beautiful” and Andra Day will perform “Lift Every Voice and Sing” at Super Bowl LVIII, where Usher will headline the halftime show.
