Reba McEntire teamed up with Carole King for her new sitcom’s theme song.
In an interview published Thursday, Oct. 10, the country star, 69, discussed the making of the track for Happy’s Place and how she ended up reuniting with the “You’ve Got a Friend” legend, 82, with USA TODAY.
“I emailed her and told her the situation,” McEntire told the publication. “She said that she’d love to help out.”

While the pair are “friends,” she admittedly hadn’t seen King in roughly four years.
The “Fancy” musician and the “Where You Lead” singer ended up meeting in Los Angeles at the home of King’s daughter, Sherry Kondor, where they wrote the song.
“I had the beginning and a chorus but mainly the melody,” said McEntire. “Then [King] came in and wrote the lyrics and added a melody. I said, ‘Carole, I really love my melody and I love your lyrics.’ So she said, ‘Throw them together.’ “
In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE in May, McEntire revealed that she would be performing the theme song for Happy Place.
“Oh, definitely. I’ll be singing the theme song. We’ve started working on it, and we’ll have it soon finished,” she said. “If they say it’s a go, I’ll finish it up and have it ready for when we go to series.”
McEntire previously performed the Reba theme song, a reworked version of her 2001 single “I’m a Survivor,” which has gone viral on social media several times over the years and remains a staple in her concerts to this day.
In the conversation, the “You Lie” artist said reuniting with her former Reba costar Melissa Peterman for the show has been “so much fun.”

“Rex Linn, my boyfriend, is also part of the show. We’ve got a great ensemble with same producers, showrunner and writers as we had with the Reba show, and it’s a great script,” said McEntire.
The “Consider Me Gone” performer then provided some background on the series’ plot.
“My [character Bobbie’s] dad was Happy, that was his name, and we owned a tavern called Happy’s Place,” said McEntire. “Well, Happy passed, and so he’s passed the tavern onto me, but there’s a little hiccup involved, so that’s the mystery right there. Everybody has to tune in and watch it, and I hope they love it.”
