When Asher HaVon first went through his blind auditions, Reba McEntire’s instincts told her he may be the winner — and she was right.
On Tuesday, May 21, HaVon was crowned the season 25 winner of The Voice. Speaking to PEOPLE after the show, HaVon and McEntire reflected on their whirlwind win.
“I’m thrilled to pieces, very grateful. When he picked me after I turned on the blind auditions, I had a sneaking suspicion he was going to be the winning contestant,” McEntire, 69, said.
She added, “I said, ‘You got the winner.’”
For HaVon — who previously called McEntire “mother” — earning the winning title is like a dream.
“I feel like I’m dreaming, and I’m waiting for my alarm clock to wake up, but there’s no alarm clock, and I’m not dreaming. I’m so excited,” HaVon said.
Reflecting on the calm before the storm as the competition was down to himself and fellow Team Reba contestant Josh Sanders, HaVon said he had an array of feelings.
“I was so scared. I was terrified but I was so excited. Either way, Josh has become my brother in this show, and we’re almost like the same singer — except he’s the country version of me.” he said. “I mean, same power, same stage presence. So, it’s like the same person. I felt the love in brotherhood standing there.”
For McEntire, watching her two contestants compete for the winning title filled her with joy.
“I feel like a proud mama. A very proud mama. Mama was always very nervous in the audience when I would be singing. And that’s what I felt like when you guys would be singing,” she said, as HaVon points out McEntire would always give them a thumbs up when they were on the stage.

“I was channeling good hope, good old energy, everything,” the “Consider Me Gone” singer said.
After their victory, both McEntire and HaVon planned to celebrate by getting some rest.
The final five in The Voice finale included HaVon, Josh Sanders, Karen Waldrup, Bryan Olesen and Nathan Chester.
