Reba McEntire Reveals Carole King-Penned Theme for New Series ‘Happy’s Place,’ Brings Costars to Tears
Reba McEntire‘s new sitcom Happy’s Place premieres on Friday, October 18 on NBC, but in the meantime, she finally dropped her original theme song for the show. NBC posted a video on its social media featuring the theme, as well as clips of McEntire surprising her costars by playing it for them. Safe to say, there wasn’t a dry eye at the table read.
“I’m Reba McEntire and I have a little surprise today,” McEntire said in the video. “Carole King and I wrote a song – ‘The Theme of Happy’s Place’ – and we’ve got it finished and now we’re gonna play it for everybody after table read.”
McEntire took a moment to tell the story behind the song, which she wrote with her friend Carole King. Then, the theme played for everyone, with various emotions written across the faces of the stars as they listened. After, they all shared their thoughts.
“We just heard the song of Happy’s Place, the theme song, and everyone was crying. Or maybe it was just me? No, everyone was crying. Absolutely amazing,” said Belissa Escobedo, who plays Bobbie’s half-sister. Bobbie, of course, is played by Reba McEntire.

Melissa Peterman, who plays the needy and drama-filled Gabby, also shared her thoughts on the theme. “I mean… if you can see it, my eyes are still a little bit teary-eyed,” she said. “It was beautiful, and we had such a great, iconic theme song that first time around with ‘I’m A Survivor.’ But this is just… I feel like she did it again.”
Fans of McEntire’s first sitcom, Reba, will remember Peterman as Barbra Jean, the fictional Reba’s ex-husband’s new wife who kept trying to be her friend. Now, Peterman is back at Reba’s side once again. She continued, “The lyrics are beautiful, I want to hear them again. And the story… ‘I don’t know, I just called my friend Carole King and we’ll work together.’ I want to hear it again. Play it again!”
The song is up-beat and exciting and sets the tone for Happy’s Place in a great way. McEntire’s vocals are crystal clear, just as they were on “I’m A Survivor.” Melissa Peterman was right; she really did it once again.
