Savannah Guthrie of TODAY became emotional as she opened up about her painful divorce from 20 years ago. The beloved anchor revealed the real reason behind her split, saying, “He was the one at fault…” This rare glimpse into her past sheds light on her journey toward love, motherhood, and personal growth.
Savannah Guthrie’s Emotional Confession About Her Divorce
As one of the main co-anchors of TODAY, Savannah Guthrie is known for delivering the news with professionalism and grace. However, every so often, she offers viewers a glimpse into her personal life. In a candid interview, she recently opened up about a painful chapter—her divorce nearly two decades ago.
Savannah, now happily married with children, reflected on how her first marriage ended and the emotional toll it took on her. She was married to Mark Orchard from 2005 to 2009, and while the union didn’t last, it played a significant role in shaping her outlook on love and family.
“When I was 36, I got divorced,” she shared. “I wasn’t married long. That was a huge disappointment. I was pretty sure that I had lost my opportunity [to become a mom] and more or less ruined my life.” Her heartfelt revelation resonated with many who have faced similar struggles in their personal lives.
Finding Love and Motherhood on Her Own Terms
Despite the heartbreak of divorce, Savannah did not give up on her dreams of having a family. After parting ways with her first husband, she focused on her career and personal growth. Years later, she found love again with Michael Feldman, whom she married in 2014.
Savannah’s journey to motherhood was not conventional, as she welcomed her first child at 42 and her second at 44. In her interview, she offered advice to women who worry about starting a family later in life. “You just have to trust that things tend to happen at the right time and maybe not on your schedule,” she explained.
She acknowledged that becoming a mother in her 40s was a blessing but also a challenge. “I could never tell someone, ‘You’ll get to have babies too at 44.’ That was a miracle, and I recognize that. But why not hope? Why not have faith?” Her words served as an inspiration for many women who face similar concerns about balancing career, love, and family.
Keeping Family Life Private While in the Public Eye
Although Savannah Guthrie shares occasional glimpses of her personal life, she is careful about how much she reveals on air. As a public figure, she is mindful of the impact her words can have, especially on her family. “If I was on [Today with Jenna & Friends], I’d probably be saying all kinds of things about my husband! We don’t do as much talking about our personal lives on our show,” she admitted.
Her husband, Michael Feldman, also prefers to keep things private. “He doesn’t love when I discuss his snoring,” she joked. Now that her children are getting older, she is even more cautious about what she shares. “My daughter’s at an age where everything is embarrassing. My mere existence is mortifying.”
Savannah’s approach highlights the delicate balance between being a public figure and maintaining a sense of normalcy for her family. While she values authenticity, she also respects the privacy of those closest to her.
Savannah Guthrie’s emotional revelation about her past divorce sheds light on the struggles and triumphs she has faced in her personal life. Despite experiencing heartbreak, she found love again and built the family she always dreamed of.
