Shania Twain Is Drawing Inspiration from Reba McEntire as She’s Set to Host the People’s Choice Country Awards
In 1995, The Woman In Me made Shania Twain a pop-country sensation. Nearly 30 years later, country music’s all-time best-selling female artist is in the midst of a highly successful Las Vegas residency. This Thursday (Sept. 26) Twain will host the second annual People’s Choice Country Awards from the Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville. The “Come On Over” singer recently opened up about the “full-circle experience” and which country superstar she is looking to for inspiration.
Shania Twain Is Taking Hosting Cues From Reba McEntire
In May 2024, Reba McEntire hosted the Academy of Country Music Awards for a record-setting 17th time. Additionally, the “Fancy” singer has hosted the rival CMA Awards five times.
Many in the country music world refer to Reba as “the ultimate host.” So it’s no surprise that Shania Twain aims to model her own hosting experience after the “Queen of Country.”
“Reba is one of my favorite hosts. She’s speaking from experience and I think that commands respect and attention,” Twain told Billboard in an interview published Monday (Sept. 23.) “She’s funny and smart, and is loved by all, and it’s a compliment to be asked to do something like [hosting an awards show]. So Reba is a good example for me.”
The gig transports Twain “back to my own beginnings in Nashville,” she told Billboard. She is perhaps most excited to rub shoulders with country music’s past and future. The five-time GRAMMY winner named Parker McCollum, Keith Urban, and the War and Treaty among her most anticipated acts.
Las Vegas Residency Extended
In May 2024, Shania Twain kicked off her third headlining residency in Las Vegas. Fortuitously, Shania Twain: COME ON OVER – The Las Vegas Residency – All The Hits! coincided with the 25th anniversary of her iconic third studio album, Come On Over.
Initially, the residency was scheduled to conclude in December. However, Twain recently announced nine additional shows set for the beginning of 2025.
The extended tour will now wrap up during Super Bowl weekend in early February.
In a Sept. 7 social media post, Twain called the moment “bittersweet.”
“[In] announcing the final shows of this residency I realize our time is finite,” she wrote. “And I’ve had such an incredible time with you all that I never truthfully want it to end!”
