Kim Kardashian reveals ex-husband Kris Humphries made her give back the engagement ring she mostly paid for

Kim Kardashian revealed a new detail about her short-lived marriage to former NBA star Kris Humphries on this week’s episode of The Kardashians.

Kim was infamously married to Humphries for just 72 days before filing for divorce in late October 2011, with Kim opening up about the relationship during a trip to India to attend a lavish wedding.

While the marriage lasted less than three months, their estrangement spanned nearly two years, with rumors swirling that the whole marriage was a publicity stunt to promote their E! series Keeping Up With the Kardashians, though those rumors were never confirmed.

The divorce wasn’t finalized until October 2013, by which time Kim had already been dating Kanye West for over a year.

During the new episode of The Kardashians, Kim was reminiscing about her previous engagement rings, when she revealed that Humphries made her give the ring back.

The reality star also revealed that she paid for nearly the whole ring herself, with the then-NBA star contributing just 1/5th of the ring’s price.

During the new episode of The Kardashians, Kim was reminiscing about her previous engagement rings, when she revealed that Humphries made her give the ring back.

Both Kim and Khloe attended the wedding of Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant in Mumbai, India, after the family jeweler Lorraine Schwartz said the family wanted to invite them.

Despite never meeting the family, the bride or the groom, Kim and Khloe made the trip to Mumbai to attend the wedding, joining other celebs like Hillary Clinton and John Cena, to name a few.

Their time in India was short and also briefly chaotic, when a massive pear-shaped diamond on Kim’s elaborate necklace fell off, leading to a huge search for the gem.

While others were looking for the missing stone, Kim started reminiscing about the engagement rings of her past.

‘Number one was a cushion cut, 14-carat, I still have it,’ Kim said, referring to her first marriage to music producer Damon Thomas in 2000, when she was just 19.

Khloe added, ‘And number two you bought from Lorraine,’ which Kim confirmed, adding, ‘Yeah, and I had to Kris Humphries.’

Kim asked Lorraine, ‘My Kris Humphries ring was an emerald cut, right? How many carats, 18?’

Lorraine confirmed it was 18 carats as her hairstylist Chris Appleton asked if she kept it, and Kim said she didn’t.

‘I didn’t keep that. I was pregnant with North, still married to him, and in order to divorce him he said I had to give him the ring in my divorce,’ Kim said.

Chris was stunned, adding, ‘Jesus,’ as Khloe mentioned, ‘That she bought,’ as Chris added, ‘Savage.’

Kim added, ‘He contributed a fifth,’ and Lorraine said it was ‘best’ to get rid of it, though Kim had other ideas.

‘I know, but I would have loved a collection,’ Kim said.

Kim previously mentioned Humphries this season after Khloe re-connected with her ex, Lamar Odom, and Kim joked, ‘Should I call Kris Humphries?’

After securing the ring, Humphries wound up auctioning it off, fetching a cool $749K for the rock (via E!).

‘The ring is indeed Kris’ property that he received through his marriage dissolution,’ his rep said in a 2013 statement, adding he was, ‘very pleased with the final result.’

The auction well exceeded the initial pre-sale estimate of between $300,000 and $500,000, with Humphries’ rep adding he was donating the proceeds to a then-undetermined charity.

Kim previously mentioned Humphries this season after Khloe re-connected with her ex, Lamar Odom, and Kim joked, ‘Should I call Kris Humphries?’

There were reports that the ring cost upwards of $2 million, which would nearly equate to a full year of Humphries’ salary at the time.

However Kardashian matriarch Kris Jenner insisted that the cost was, ‘less than half’ of the rumored $2 million price tag.

Humphries would go on to play 16 years in the NBA with numerous teams such as the Utah Jazz and Atlanta Hawks before retiring in 2017.

It’s unclear if Kardashian and Humphries have spoken at all since their divorce was finalized over a decade ago.
