Carl Froch has been weighing in on the future of Moses Itauma.

Froch knows a thing or two about operating in the highest level of boxing, having been a three-time super-middleweight world champion and competing in 12 straight world title fights from 2008 to 2014.

The latest British star that looks destined for big things is Itauma, who has risen up the ranks in the heavyweight division and currently holds a record of 12-0, with 10 of those victories coming by knockout.

There has been plenty of debate over how fast Itauma should be guided on his way to the top, and Froch has now revealed on his Froch On Fighting YouTube channel what he thinks of the heavyweight prospect.

“Top fighter, unbeaten. He’s 12-0, 10 knockouts. This is a kid that really you’d expect him to be world champion at some point in his career.

“What’s he going to be like when he’s under the cosh? Is he still going to have that beast in him as he’s not been tested yet. And what about when he gets his chin checked.

“He’s been sparring with the big boys but you’re wearing 16oz gloves and you have headguards on which helps absorb the shot.”

Froch then revealed whether or not he would have Itauma face current heavyweight king Oleksandr Usyk in the near future.

“I certainly wouldn’t chuck him in with Usyk. Usyk is getting on, he’s 38 years old and in that big fight with Dubois. Who knows. You might put him in with Usyk and dominate and hurt him with big shots. He might iron out Dubois.

“You’ve got to build them up. You can’t chuck them in the deep end straight away… You’ve got to take your time still. You don’t want to chuck him in with a Dubois and Usyk. As much as fans would be intrigued to see it.”

Froch then explained who he would like to see Itauma face instead.

“Somebody like Dillian Whyte or Joe Joyce. I was going to say Derek Chisora but I think he’s done now. I think it would be a punchbag exercise for Moses.

“Somebody like Dave Allen would be exciting. He’s just knocked out Johnny Fisher. You’d get to find out where he is on the British/European level.

“He’s a top fighter Moses Itauma, he’s got a great career ahead of him in my opinion and I think he’ll be a fantastic world champion if indeed he gets there.”

Itauma’s next move is currently unknown, though the Whyte fight has been reported for August.
