Mike Tyson returned from retirement to face Jake Paul late last year, with the YouTuber-turned-fighter landing around 48 power punches on the heavyweight legend over the course of eight rounds.
The record-breaking contest was controversial due to the significant gap in age and activity, with Tyson returning to the professional game for the first time since 2005 and at the age of 58. Paul, 27 at the time of the bout, had built up a record of 10-0 with seven knockouts, mostly against former UFC fighters.
Though ‘Iron’ Mike looked competitive for a short period of time after the first bell, his age quickly caught up with him and Paul coasted to a unanimous decision victory.Speaking to Fox Sports in the aftermath, Tyson assessed the younger man’s power.
“I don’t remember it, but my body, my chest, stomach and stuff was really sore. Jake punches hard. My body hurt so bad.”Paul recently revealed that he would be making an announcement next week as to his next move in the sport.
That comes after talks with both Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez and Gervonta Davis fell apart.Though still green as a boxer, he is one of the most lucrative fights in boxing for potential opponents, as evidenced by British superstar and former two-time heavyweight world champion Anthony Joshua recently saying that the pair will fight in 2026.For now, Paul may focus on a lesser known contender if he wants to deliver on his promise to become a legitimate world champion in the future.
