The Voice season 11 winner, Jason “Sundance” Head, was shot “in the navel area” in an incident on his Texas ranch.
Sundance’s wife Misty shared news of the incident via her husband’s official Facebook page.
“Prayer Warriors we need y’all. This is Misty – I don’t have a lot of information but please keep Sundance in your prayers,” she wrote in the post. “Sundance has been life flighted with a gun shot wound to his stomach per the paramedics who called me.”
“They told me once they land he’s going in for immediate surgery. They did get him stable for the flight (per the paramedic) We are on our way to Tyler now. 🙏🏻. Again this is the only information I have at the time. Please just keep him in your prayers.”
Misty later updated the post with more information, and revealed Sundance, 46, would no longer undergo surgery for the bullet wound.
“Doctor just called me. Bullet went in above his navel and lodged into his abdominal wall missing all vital organs,” she wrote. “He will not require surgery as they are not removing the bullet 🤷♀️ I’m sure she said why but my head is in a fog right now. Him being on the bigger side was a good thing. Bullet is in his fatty tissue. Thanks for all the prayers .”
Sundance’s agent, Trey Newman, shared further details of the country singer’s condition with The New York Post on the same day, confirming he is “stable.”
“It missed all vital organs. It was not self-inflicted,” Newman told the outlet. “We don’t know if it was an accident with his gun or if it was another hunter nearby.”

He continued, “The bullet is lodged in some fatty tissue, and the only way it could have happened is if it traveled through something else.”
Newman also confirmed that surgery to remove the bullet isn’t immediately on the cards as he explained, “It sounds like they’re gonna leave it in there.”
Sundance competed on season 11 of The Voice as part of coach Blake Shelton’s team, beating out rivals Billy Gilman, Josh Gallagher and Wé McDonald to claim victory.
During the season he won over fans with stirring renditions of songs by Miley Cyrus, Alicia Keys and Keith Urban.
In The Voice’s finale where he was crowned winner, Sundance performed his original song, “Darling Don’t Go” as pink and white confetti fell, and he paid tribute to his wife Misty.
The singer previously competed on season 6 of American Idol in 2007.
