“I thought she was a sweet lady. And now she’s got that competitive edge,” Mooney said of McEntire
A friendly rivalry has seemingly been sparked between the country coaches on The Voice.
On Tuesday night’s episode of the NBC singing competition show, things got competitive between coaches when Reba McEntire blocked Dan + Shay from contestant Donny Van Slee after his blind audition.
Van Slee, 30, took the stage and performed “Greatest Love Story” by LANCO. McEntire, 68, was the first to turn around, and the “Fancy” performer used her one block of the season to prevent Dan + Shay from getting him on their team.
“You started the battle. So guess what, buckle up Reba. We’re coming from you,” Shay Mooney, 32, told McEntire.

McEntire then shared her take: “I loved your voice. I loved the little raspiness, and when I heard you — my first thought was, ‘Block them.’”
After welcoming Van Slee to her team, the “I’m a Survivor” singer gifted him some chicken tenders.
Later, in private interviews with the coaches, the “Tequila” duo expressed how shocked they were upon finding out out they were blocked.
“I mean Reba blocked us, the new guys. How rude. To be honest, I’m questioning it — I thought she was a sweet lady. And now she’s got that competitive edge,” Mooney said.
Then, Karen Waldrup, 36, was up for her blind audition and she sang “Bye Bye” by Jo Dee Messina. Only seconds into her performance, Dan + Shay turned around and blocked McEntire.
“Bye bye, bye bye, Reba, bye bye,” they sang after her performance, as McEntire said, “Paybacks, paybacks!”
“Vengeance is sweet,” Mooney said. Dan Smyers, 36, later added, “Man, blocked the Queen of Country Music. Put that one on the resume.”
Then, John Legend weighed in: “I think we have a little war starting. Is the Queen of Country going to keep dominating, or does she have some real competition with Dan + Shay?”

During her private interview, McEntire raved about her fellow coaches as Dan + Shay walked into her interview.
“The other coaches are great. Dan + Shay are incredible,” she said before the duo added, “We’re not worthy.”
McEntire gave them both a hug and said they’re “a huge asset on The Voice.”
“We are so honored to be on this coaching panel with you. We are the biggest Reba fans,” Smyers said.
Season 25 of The Voice airs Mondays and Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET on NBC.
