Terence Crawford and Canelo Alvarez

‘Shock the world’… Terence Crawford issues statement amid Canelo Alvarez fight rumors

Boxing fans may finally be treated to a super fight between Terence Crawford and Canelo Alvarez in 2025.

Turki Alalshikh has been vocal about his desire to create a huge boxing match between Crawford and Alvarez, as it is one of his most desired fights.

Alalshikh met with Alvarez before the Ring Magazine awards and also met with Crawford on the same weekend.

Although Alvarez has said previously that he was not overly interested in the bout, things may be about to change.

Terence Crawford excites fans with social media post

There has been no official announcement of a fight between Crawford and Alvarez, however, the rumors are beginning to heat up.

Adding to the speculation, Crawford took to his X account to make a post that could be referencing a potential fight.

“[I’m going to] shock the world watch!!! The best is yet to come. I had it in my back pocket the whole time.”

Although it is not made clear what he is referring to, many fans online feel it is hinting towards an Alvarez bout. One X user wrote, “Canelo fight news coming soon?”.

Prior to the above tweet, Crawford also posted a photo of himself and Alalshikh as the two had a private meeting in London at the weekend.

Crawford’s last bout came in August of 2024, as he defeated Israil Madrimov. The win would mean that Crawford would become the interim WBO World Super Welterweight champion.

However, despite making his super welterweight debut in his previous outing, he is still two weight classes below super middleweight Alvarez.

It is currently unclear as to whether Crawford would make a big move to Canelo’s division, or if the two would compete at a catchweight.

Despite not showing interest in a bout with Crawford on previous occasions, Alvarez is seemingly more open to fighting the current super welterweight champion.

Speaking to Sky Sports at the Ring Magazine awards about a Crawford fight, Alvarez said “We’ll see what happens,” before adding “Anything is possible.”

Alvarez last competed in September of 2024 and currently has an opponent in place for 2025.
