After Reports He Had No “Interest In Making Their Marriage Work,” Here’s All The Details On Ben Affleck And Jennifer Lopez’s Divorce

After all the excitement of their 2021 reunion, Jennifer Lopez has filed for divorce from Ben Affleck — marking their second high-profile split since they broke off their first engagement in 2004.

This breakup comes as Ben’s second divorce and Jennifer’s fourth. In 2005, Ben married Jennifer Garner. They announced their separation in 2015, and their divorce was finalized three years later. Meanwhile, J.Lo has previously been married to producer Ojani Noa, dancer Cris Judd, and Marc Anthony, with whom she shares two children.

According to People, Jennifer filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court on Tuesday, Aug. 20 — the anniversary of Ben and Jen’s traditional wedding ceremony, which took place in Georgia in 2022. (They legally tied the knot in Las Vegas on July 16.)

The news was first reported by TMZ.

Reports suggest that the singer filed for divorce without an attorney. A source also told NBC News that Ben and Jen — who have respective net worths of about $150 million and $400 million — do not have a prenup, meaning any money they earned individually during the two years they were married is community property.

The legal documents state that Jen is not asking for spousal support from Ben and has requested that he be denied the same support from her.

Jennifer’s decision to file for divorce comes after months of speculation that she and Ben were facing issues. And now, the documents reportedly indicate that the marriage has been over for some time, with J.Lo listing the separation date as April 26, 2024.

Initial rumors that the marriage might be on the rocks surfaced in early May when Ben did not attend the Met Gala with Jen, even though she was a co-chair of the prestigious event. Within a few weeks, People published reports that the two were living separately.

Ben has yet to respond to the filing, and neither he nor Jennifer have issued official statements regarding the split. So far, we know little about what may have caused the divorce, although a source told People that Jennifer “tried really hard to make things work and is heartbroken.”

“She was done waiting and the date she did it speaks a ton,” another insider told the outlet, referring to Jen’s decision to file for divorce on their wedding anniversary.

“It’s good that she did it,” they added, indicating she has “control of the process.”

Amid all this, Ben appears to be focused on fatherhood. On Tuesday morning — hours before J.Lo filed for divorce — the Oscar-winner was seen arriving back in LA on a private jet with Jennifer Garner. The exes had reportedly returned from Connecticut, where they’d dropped their 18-year-old daughter, Violet, off at Yale University.

Though Jennifer was the one to file to end the marriage, a source told People that Ben showed no “interest in making their marriage work.”

“She’s very disappointed and sad,” the insider said of Jen. “But Ben hasn’t given her any signs that he wants to continue their marriage… It’s gotten to the point that she just needs to look out for herself.”

Over the last few months, J.Lo has been seen on numerous outings with Ben’s children. On Aug. 11, following reports that she and Ben hadn’t seen each other in “weeks,” the couple spent time together at his rental home in Brentwood — bolstering claims that the separation has been relatively amicable.

Jennifer also reportedly “stopped by” at Ben’s “small birthday celebration at home” on Aug. 15.

On Aug. 5, an insider told Entertainment Tonight that Ben and J.Lo had been holding off from making the divorce official to ensure a “seamless” transition for their respective kids.
