The Voice has been stunning viewers for years with amazing talent from across the United States, crowning 25 winners since it premiered in 2011.
During season 19 of the NBC singing competition series, New York native Carter Rubin blew audiences away with his singing abilities and saw coach Gwen Stefani secure her first win. At just 15 years old, Rubin has a long career ahead of him, undoubtedly, but he didn’t want to wait another second to start living his dream.
“Well, Gwen has encouraged me to start writing some music, and that’s definitely what I plan on doing,” he told TV Insider in December 2020. “I have some songs in the folder that I want to record. I definitely want to get in the studio and start putting music out there for people to hear, and then, once COVID is over, I want to perform in front of live audiences again.”
Rubin is among the youngest people to ever win The Voice, along with Danielle Bradbery and Brynn Cartelli. Bradbery won in 2013 while Cartelli took top spot in the competition in 2018.

Season 1: Javier Colon
Colon was crowned the winner of The Voice in season 1. He walked away from the show with $100,000 and a contract with Universal Music Group. Eventually, he cut ties with the label. PopSugar reported that he moved on and signed with Concord Music. Colon explained his departure in a 2014 interview with Buddy TV (via Mic).
“I went in with high hopes, as I believe everyone did,” he told the outlet at the time. “But when you pour your heart and soul into a new album that you think is really great, and your label who is supposed to support, market and promote your music does neither, it’s really hard not to be upset.”
Recently, Colon has been releasing covers of popular songs via Instagram.

Season 2: Jermaine Paul
During season 2 of The Voice, Paul won with a little help from Shelton. After winning, he returned home to Spring Valley, New York, to perform for children at the Martin Luther King Multi-Purpose Center, according to LoHud.com.

Paul went on to release his first solo album in 2015. He was also nominated for two Grammy Awards.
Asked how his life had changed since winning The Voice, Paul explained, “Mainly, now I’m more in control of my own destiny. I move at my own page whereas before it was like, if Alicia wasn’t on the road, then I had to go find another gig. I was away from my family a lot. Nowadays, it’s definitely changed because I’m more able to set my own schedule.”
Prior to his big win, Paul had seen some success performing with well-known musicians like Alicia Keys and Mary J. Blige. He now runs JP Entertainment and has released two albums: 2019’s For the Record: Volume 1 and a sequel in July 2020.
